Vintage Toleware ? Metal Garbage Waste Can Basket Pink Roses Blue Turquoise
Here is a vintage metal garbage can in a turquoise blue. The can features a vase of roses. The flowers are not painted on but instead it is like a picture printed on the metal. There are some dents in the can as well as some rust spots(see pics) Inside. Along the bottom is rust but overall the can is very usable and very pretty and has a lot of life left in it yet. This is a truly rare find: a shabby chic antique enamelware or granite ware or if you like tole ware rack from just after the turn of the century. Once upon a time nearly every French home had one hanging near the cooking stove. Ladles and skimmers hung from them handily at arms reach and the large bottom tray would catch any drips keeping the kitchen surfaces clean. Blue and White is the color of choice for most french kitchens and this tool rack was designed to fit right in with that scheme. It measures 19 inches tall by 12 inches wide and the tray extends about 4 inches. Although originally designed for kitchens I have seen them used here in France in bathrooms as a practical towel. Soap and shampoo holder. Overall it is in very good shape with just a small amount of wear around the edges. This is a beautiful old watering can. Or I suppose could have been a coffee pot, that has been painted in toleware. It is very large, as you can see by the measurements in the photos. The piece was originally blue as shown also. The tole painting is beautiful. I have included the second to last photo from a price guide which shows the shape of an old watering cans. Offering a Handpainted Toleware Waste Basket or Trash Can. Nice used condition. Measures just over 13" high. 10 1/2" wide and 6 1/2" from back to front. All original with wooden ball feet. I just wiped the inside and will leave the rest of the cleaning to the next owner. The dark blue mark on the inside on a side is wax, and does come off. Has a few paint nicks.
