VINTAGE FOLK ART PAINTING ROUND TIN BY JOHN DUNN IN PETER OMPIR STYLE
Description Other than the ping on the top of the can. It is in excellent condition. Signed by John Dunn in 1984. Beautiful hand painted by the sought after Folk Artist John Dunn. Most of his work was sold at Sturbridge Village in the 1980's. In the 1950s Peter Ompir met Warner Wrede and together the two of them painted. Signing the pieces“Peter Ompir. In the 1960s Ompir and Wrede moved to Sheffield, Mass. where they continued to work. Wrede primarily painted the basecoat on the objects that Peter decorated. Peter Ompir died in 1979. Warner Wrede continued to paint the Ompir style, still signing it“Peter Ompir. Warner Wrede continued to paint and his painting career spanned over 50 years. John Dunn. 1860 Heavy Tin American Decorated Art Sewing Box Drawers Patriotic Flag on top
Rare heavy tin handpainted and decorated sewing box. early Americana! The lid lifts back to reveal an upper metal tray to hold specific sewing items(not original to case) but molded areas hold a thimble. Scissors, bone handled brush and more. Lift the tray out and inside there are two decorated drawers and an open space for work. Under the lid is a mirror hand decorated with striping on the frame. The overall dimensions are 10 x 7.5 x 6.5 inches. The top has a scrolled like design in a gold paint with a flag pennant inside. The paint was originally a dark red with gold striping. Vintage Art-Gift Toleware Tray- Painted Tin tea Tray w/Pierced Border & Flowers
This is a large Tole tray that measures 24" by 18" and is in very good condition. The front side features a flower motif on a green background. The back is solid green and has a label for Art Craft products. This tray is in very good condition. There is some paint missing around the edges And some missing where the sides meet the pan. There is also some extra( paint that has been spattered or spilled or Painted on it. I can't tell if it was an accident or an on purpose because of the way the trail of paint misses the flowers. Peter OMPIR FIDDLER MAN Tin Round TOLE HANDPAINTED Folk Art
This is a very nice example of PETER OMPIR'S works. During his lifetime Peter Ompir was at his height in the 1970's. Ompir's work soon generated a great demand for more. And his pieces were selling in Macy's, Neiman-Marcus, Sloan's of New York, Magnin's, and Meier& Frank. In the 1970's Peter's treasures were proudly offered for sale by Harry& Velma Visse at their Corner House gift shop in Portland, Oregon. This piece measures about 12 3/8" across and 2' deep. The patina is lovely and I believe that the subject, the'Fiddler" is somewhat unusual. I love the detail of the shading and composition. There is overall small chipping in the paint all the way around the rim. I personally don't think it takes away from the Folk Art of the piece. It is also is about 1 1/8” deep. The handles left and right are circular rolled under. Please refer to the scan of the underside for reference. The stenciled design in cream. Green and red paint on both left and right sides is beautiful and carries over along the top and bottom sides. There appears to be an under wash of a copper color that shows through the paint in various areas and quite a lot on the reverse side. The piece of older tape on the reverse mentions the fact that at one time the piece had four balled feet, one at each corner. These however are no longer present. The character of the tray does not suffer with them missing. ... moreThe seams of the tin are tight with the exception of one ¾”slight split in the tin seam running from the base of the tray diagonally to the top corner. I have had these for over 30 years and they were ancient when I got them. Made from tin. They are hand painted in the cottage style tole with a basket of flowers that still shows lovely color for their age. I had these in my kitchen with old cookbooks(shown in photo) but they can be adapted to any place in the house. They measure about 5.25" across and are about 5.75" tall and 6" deep. A great piece of Pennsylvania Folk Art from the late 1800's Here are some things that can be known with a fair degree of certainty: it's origins are from the pennsylvania regions. It is from the late 1870/80's to 1910 by the style of painting. The person/s who used the box was right handed due to distinctive wear pattern. A pattern which would be consistent with the age which is approx 100+/10yrs. The base paints of black& red are original and consistent for the period. The paint is only one layer in thickness. The flowers. However, may have been redone/touched up approx 70+ yrs ago. I say this due to lack of similar wear on the flowers. The wear on the tin is consistent with the probable age, but it could be the box was used more than usual. DISCLAIMER: I am not an expert on toleware. On the back are the remnants of what probably was a paper hanger. This is in Wonderful Condition. There is appropriate wear on the back from use and patina from age. The artist was quite talented and the painting very well done. The pan is large and looks a bit like a mining panning for gold pan. However, in the old days, fresh milk was poured into a large wide rimmed pan and placed in a cool area until the cream rose. Up for bids is this Antique 19thC Folk Art Stencil Decorated Tin Toleware Watering Can AAFA. This piece was made right around the 1860s or 1870s. The watering can is made of tin and it has a swing handle. The watering can retains most of its original ox blood paint which is stencil decorated in gold with different types of stylized leaves and urns. The watering can is lidded. When the handle is up this piece stands 16 1/8" in height. Is 14" from spout to handle, and has a bottom diameter of 10 1/8" This piece is in great condition with no dents or dings but does have some wear to the paint.
