Fun vintage silent butler that features a woodland scene of trees. Spotted deer, cattails, and those little red dotty mushrooms we all know and love. This has some minor scratching on the teal blue paint finish, but the scene is pretty intact. Has a wood handle. Measures about 10.75" long, the container 6" in diameter, and is 1" high. I do not know where this if from, or the age. My grandmother had a silent butler. And when I was a kid, it was a favorite toy for some reason. I would put little things in it. cute little crumb tray by Pilgrim Art hand painted tole. Gold colored with white flowers. Measures about 6 1/4" in diameter(not counting the handle) and about 1 1/4" deep. Some paint missing on the bottom in a square shape(probably price tag or sticker of some sort) and the top has an area near the handle that looks"stained" I did not try to clean it as I was afraid of hurting the paint. A great piece of Pennsylvania Folk Art from the late 1800's Here are some things that can be known with a fair degree of certainty: it's origins are from the pennsylvania regions. It is from the late 1870/80's to 1910 by the style of painting. The person/s who used the box was right handed due to distinctive wear pattern. A pattern which would be consistent with the age which is approx 100+/10yrs. The base paints of black& red are original and consistent for the period. The paint is only one layer in thickness. The flowers. However, may have been redone/touched up approx 70+ yrs ago. I say this due to lack of similar wear on the flowers. The wear on the tin is consistent with the probable age, but it could be the box was used more than usual. DISCLAIMER: I am not an expert on toleware. This is a gorgeous decorated box that measures 11.5" by 8" by 2 5/8" high. The box is made of wood and is painted a shiny black with a brightly colored bird amongst flowers. Fruit, and leaves. The box is divided inside and the separate lid fits on top. There are several tiny scratches on the box and missing paint chips, so please use the photos for condition. Primitive Folk Art Metal Can With Sprinkler Top Hand Painted Toleware
I really don't know what to say about this can. It is interesting. I would call it Folk Art or Toleware. I think it is something an individual has put together and hand painted. It is a metal can. There is tape around the top and I am leaving it there. I do not know why it is there. The sprinkler top fits OK so it is not helping to hold it in. The yellow looking area around the bottom. At first I thought it was tape but now I think it is wax. There is a circle of styrofoam under the bottom. I am not sure what the purpose of that is. There is some paint loss and discoloring.
