It is found in good used condition and measures approximately 11 3/8" x 6 3/4" x 2 7/8" in size. There is a nice finger hold. Often used for cutlery or silverware, these are very useful and can be repurposed for many different ideas. My favorite is to house remotes for the TV or stereo. The only condition issue to discuss is that the bottom board is a bit wrapped and there are a few minor splits by the nails. Please see the photos for details. Antique Oval Oak and Pierced Silverplate Tea Tray circa 1870 Up for bid is a very n ice old tea tray in the classic English style. It is made of dark oak. And trimmed with silverplate. It is the traditional oval shape, with handles for carrying. There are hallmarks on the tray, which I am unable to read, but arein the last few photographs. The tray measures 21 1/4 inches long. Measured from handle to handle, and about 13 1/ 4 inches wide at its widest point. It is in very good antique condition. The center silverplate oval is slightly discolored; the handles have a little discoloration on the wood; there is a tiny patched fleck on wood of one handle. It is decorated with bunches of grapes. Grape leaves, and grape vines in high relief. They are all hand carved and the whole background is decorated with heavy pointillism. The try has two ornate brass or bronze handles which are a little loose. There is a small fissure on the right side of the tray where one of the screws of the handles has been inserted into the wood. Otherwise, good condition with a rich patina. The oak is stained a walnut colored brown. This is a beautiful item and would be idea in a wine cellar to bring out wine and cheese. Even though it is carved in this relief, it still holds wine glasses ... morevery flat. This is certainly a master carvery handiwork and would be a wonderful addition. That is all written on the underside of the piece. It is in excellent condition with no breaks or repairs. It has nice wooden handles as well. The wood apears to have been both etched and painted. DESCRIPTION ANTIQUE 19 C guaranteed authentic. EXCELLENT patina! Nicely rubbed on the back where the woman of the house would push the board across a wooden table as she worked her bread dough. The front has more knife marks than the back. The Large V cut at the top of the board is so the woman could always line up the board to her tummy as she was working. This way the bread/cake board would never be off center. ITEM DETAILS I looked for regarding the integrity of this wooden board: I found this bread/dough board at an estate in a large collection of antique bread boards. Which is important. I know it was part of a collection. I look at the patina. I know: the older the wood. The darker ... moreand richer is its color. I smell the wood. The wood should not have a fresh cut smell. The smell of this wood is like opening the drawer of your Grandma's old wooden dresser. With a 10X Loupe I see the end grain on the side of the board. This board is definitely not veneered. This board was likely quarter-sawn. Small knots and burls are visible on the back of the board. I believe this is a Pennsylvania-Dutch bread/dough board. The flower/stem/leaf are design motifs used in their stenciling and furniture carving. The wood is hardwood. I used the finger-nail test. This antique board has been left untouched since I purchased it. It has remained stored in a wooden cabinet inside an air conditioned home. It is a lovely country piece and has some early notches and old knocks that have become part of the patina but no real damage. The shape is lovely with slanting sides and sweeping, curved edges. Wonderful patina and grain in the oak wood. I purchased the tray from Canada but believe that the tray was made in either England or Scotland. Probably one of the nicest Art Deco smoking sets I have ever seen. It was manufactured in England around 1920 and sold at the Paris store located at 1 Rue de la Paix. I have enclosed two Mappin and Webb stores adds from December of 1919 giving the address of the Paris store. The words"Triple Deposit Mappin& Webb and The 1 Rue de la Paix" are engraved on the bottom of the tray. The stores at that time were located in London. Biarritz, Nice and Monte Carlo. The silver appears to be a heavy silverplate and shows very little wear. There are three silver humidor boxes that are lined with spanish cedar and could be used for cigars, cigarettes or whatever type of loose tabac you smoke. The small boxes are 3 3/4" wide x 2 1/2" deep and 2 1/2 inches tall. The larger cigar box measures 7" wide x 5" deep x 3 1/2" ... moretall. The boxes have domed lids so the height measurements are approximate. The rolling trays are 2 3/4" x 4" One of the trays has a pin point dent which is barely noticeable. The match striker vase is solid white glazed porcelain with a gritty surface and a silver bib. The oil lamp, which appears to have never been used, has a silver match that comes from its center and could be lit from the lamps flame.The handle of the lamp is a snake. The quartersawn oak tray measures 11 1/2" x 18" and has a heavy silver fence that is around the wood and is incorporated into the feet on the bottom. One of the feet has the makers mark and address. There are two rests in front of the lamp and striker that could be used for a variety of purposes. The quality of the workmanship is superb with all pieces being cut into the wood. I don't think you will see one of these again and certainly not in this condition.
