This is one heck of an amazing lamp and it's like none other. I have never seen another one even remotely close to it. I couldn't believe my eyes when I found it. It's so fabulous. So chic. So beautiful! It is without a doubt one of those once in a lifetime pieces. One that you only see in your favorite ... moremagazine in someone else's home and you think to yourself. WOW! What a great lamp. I would love to find one like that but you never do. LOL! I've done it many times. The lamp is all wood. Very heavy- 22 pounds. Done with a garland of swags featuring all hand carved barbola style guilded roses and leaves and flowers around the center. The top is done in a column style. The paint is a creamy white and it's so perfectly chippy and shabby. OMG! I just couldn't get over it. This is one of those pieces that I really don't want to sell. One that I am in no hurry to sell because I can enjoy it while it sits here. I just loooove it. It stands approx 31.5" tall. Like I said, it has some chippy paint. Especially at the very tops of the 4"corners" so-to-speak. I know it's round but I don't know how else to explain them. I guess I could call them blocks. There's a little crack in the front and another one in the back. Looks to me to be just a split where the wood meets. Nothing that can't be glued with wood glue. Shabby Italian Florentine Vintage Tole Wood Romantic Couple Jewelry Trinket Box
This lovely antique Florentine trinket box has been in the family for many years. It was a gift to my great aunt when she moved to New York from Italy. It is in excellent. Clean condition for its age. The technique used to make this box is more laborious than others you might find today. The wood box is prepared. A layer of gesso is brused on and a layer of deep red base paint. The red base paint is used to being out the rich color of the gold leaf. The raised designe is a glue gesso mix, a little thicker than Elmer's glue, and hand applied. Once dried a layer of tacky glue is brushed on and the gold leaf is then applied to that. Often a coat of wax is rubbed on, or tinted varnish, to protect the gold leaf and give it an antiqued look. I'm very fond of this piece. But it's time to downsize and this gem needs a new home.
