Antique Victorian Paper Mache Tray Decorated with Mother of Pearl

It has Mother of Pearl decoration in the center surrounded by Gold stencils. The Gold is worn at the edges and the aged finish is tight with small marks and scuffs. There is a 1 ½ in. chip at one corner and a ½ in. chip at one tip. Fortunately these are most visible from the back(see photos) The back has the remnant of an old tag. Vintage Tole Tray c1920s Papier Paper Mache Florentine Gold Floral
My grandmother had these. She got them for her wedding in the 1920s. I learned, as a young girl trying to be helpful, that you never, ever washed them in a sink filled with warm soapy water. Boy, did I learn. This tray. While not my grandmother's, appears to be of the same vintage. It's in relatively good shape with a small dark mark on the front(see photo number 4) a space on a corner where someone used a gold enamel pen to try to fill in some missing design, and a crack on the back measuring approximately one inch long. The crack does not go through to the front. Some of the edges show some chipping as well although they aren't visible until you are actually holding the tray. In all this is a great representation of tole trays from that era and in good shape considering its age. The paper is in a typical Florentine design. With ... morea micro-dotted background, swirls and flourishes with gold leaf, and tiny red flowers. The tray measures 12.25" long by 10.75" wide. This listing is for a Vintage Hand Painted and Glazed Paper Mache Tray with Dairy Cow in Field Motif. 12 1/8 inches widest diameter. In very good condition with a small bruise to paint and glaze on cow's body towards center as shown. Easily repairable. An area about 1 1/2 inches square on back also has loss to glaze as shown again easily repairable, together with few other very minor use wear. The black color does not photograph correctly and too much reflection makes black back images awkward. No marks found. Very Decorative.
