Vintage Tole Tray c1920s Papier Paper Mache Florentine Gold Floral
My grandmother had these. She got them for her wedding in the 1920s. I learned, as a young girl trying to be helpful, that you never, ever washed them in a sink filled with warm soapy water. Boy, did I learn. This tray. While not my grandmother's, appears to be of the same vintage. It's in relatively good shape with a small dark mark on the front(see photo number 4) a space on a corner where someone used a gold enamel pen to try to fill in some missing design, and a crack on the back measuring approximately one inch long. The crack does not go through to the front. Some of the edges show some chipping as well although they aren't visible until you are actually holding the tray. In all this is a great representation of tole trays from that era and in good shape considering its age. The paper is in a typical Florentine design. With ... morea micro-dotted background, swirls and flourishes with gold leaf, and tiny red flowers. The tray measures 12.25" long by 10.75" wide. Antique vintage paper mache unique gilded panels & floral hand painted tole tray
Very old and unique paper mache tray fresh from the estate of a local collector and now offered here at a bargain start price and with absolutely no reserve. Has been used a lot over its long. Long life and has many signs of use including edge scuffs, scrapes, and scratches, cup or glass rings, and a piece of old white tape used to declare ownership. Please look closely at all the extra pictures. Measures 17 inches by 8 1/2 inches and about 1 inch tall.
