Vintage Italy Florentine Gold Gilt Gesso Ornate Wooden Wood Trinket Box
Here's a very old Florentine wood with a gesso design. Gold paint/gilt trinket box with a romantic picture on top. It's small, measuring 4" square and is a little over 1 1/2" tall. It has 2 crude metal hinges on the back. The gold paint isn't perfect, and is scratched up here and there due to age, especially on the corners, but it is still nice and the gold paint that is there shines very brightly and it displays very well. I guess you'd say it has a very nice, overall patina. You can see how old it is by the inside of the box. The wood is sturdy. These boxes that have the gesso are the hardest ones to find if you are into collecting Florentine stuff! Shipping via USPS will be $3.00. I'm always happy to answer your questions.

The trinket box is 9x6 and 1 1/2 inches high. The back of the trinket box still has the green florentia sticker which says it was handmade in Italy. Shabby Italian Florentine Vintage Tole Wood Romantic Couple Jewelry Trinket Box
This lovely antique Florentine trinket box has been in the family for many years. It was a gift to my great aunt when she moved to New York from Italy. It is in excellent. Clean condition for its age. The technique used to make this box is more laborious than others you might find today. The wood box is prepared. A layer of gesso is brused on and a layer of deep red base paint. The red base paint is used to being out the rich color of the gold leaf. The raised designe is a glue gesso mix, a little thicker than Elmer's glue, and hand applied. Once dried a layer of tacky glue is brushed on and the gold leaf is then applied to that. Often a coat of wax is rubbed on, or tinted varnish, to protect the gold leaf and give it an antiqued look. I'm very fond of this piece. But it's time to downsize and this gem needs a new home. The little holder is made of simulated leather that is laminated onto cardboard. TRAY The small hand painted tray is decorated with a patterned design of gold gilt set against a red background. There is an area with a dark stain mark. There is wear underneath the tray. TRINKET BOX The small hand painted wooden trinket or jewelry box is decorated with a patterned design of gold gilt set against a red background. It has gold gilt trim with small black accents. Unpainted wood is on the inside of the box. It measures 4 3/4" long by 3 1/2" wide by 1 13/16" high. It has paint wear and scratches on the red and gold gilt decorations. The top of the wooden box is attached to the bottom of the box with eye hooks. It does have some wood wear from use in the areas where the eye hooks are attached. But the lid's function is not affected by the wear. COASTERS The 3 coasters also have red backgrounds gold gilt designs and trim. Two of the coasters have small black accents and the third one has small blue accents. Each one has a different design in the middle. They have some wear from age and use. The lid of the box is flat with a leaf motif with a diamond pattern on all the sides. The entire box measures approx. 9-1/2" wide by 5" tall. By 5-1/2" depth(front to back) The box does show signs of wear. As expected for a vintage find. This looks and feels like wood. I believe it to be made from balsa wood. Not Marked Condition. Looks old, scratches, chippy paint loss, no breaks to the wood. Has aged patina that adds a warm glow to the box. This came from an old Cheasapeake Bay waterfront mansion estate. vintage box in the Florentine style. It is made of a lightweight wood. Used for jewelry. Cards, trinkets It has a"Made in Italy" label on the bottom. The box is decorated with turquoise on gold.
