Antique Early 1900's Pull Down Classroom Map of Africa
For sale is an incredible antique school wall map of Africa that was manufactured in Chicago. Illinois by A.J. Nystrom& Co. This wonderfully aged map is printed on a canvas material and comes with the original metal bracket which still works and is very easy to mount. Due to the fragile nature of the map, it must be removed from the metal bracket to roll it up and down by hand. Have no fear though, it's very easy to do. The original wooden rod is still attached to the bottom of the chart. This map would look great hanging in your library or study or would serve as a great educational work of art in your child's bedroom! Map dates back to around the 1920's timeframe and you'll notice many country names that no longer exist in this form. Such as Italian Somaliland, Tanganyika Territory, Belgian Congo, Eritrea, French Equatorial ... moreAfrica, Bechuanaland, Transvaal, etc. Cool eh? Additional details: Measurements(with bracket) Approximately 52" Long x 42.25” wide Circa: 1920's Item Condition: Good antique condition! Colors remain bold and vivid. As noted above. You will need to roll up/down the map by hand due to its fragile nature. Surface of map has light soilage from years and years of use. Canvas has some normal wear such as wrinkles, bends, frayed edges, light soilage, spotting, etc. The bottom quarter of the map shows significant wear, including liquid stains and deterioration of the map's surface which has begin to expose the canvas material beneath. The wooden rod remains attached but the canvas in this area is fragile and we don't recommend pulling up/down with the rod. We tend to think that each of these flaws adds to the overall wonderful antique look of this piece. Please take a gander at the pictures for further details.

Victorian Map - CENTRAL AFRICA (Partial) - Bartholomew c1890 120+ Years Old
Map by the legendary J. G. Bartholomew. Published around 1890. The map has been double mounted ready to frame. With double mount the overall size is 10 inches by 12 inches. The aperture is approximately 6 inches by 8 inches. There is another map on the reverse but that obviously does not show due to the mounting process. The atlas from which this map came was in distressed condition on the outside and some of the maps were loose and damaged but we have only mounted maps in good condition with the mount having been placed in a way that reveals only the very best portions of this very rare item.
