Fantastic molding. as you can see every single kernel of that good corfn. This was another strange ornament which the Germans could not quite understand. They understood edibles and fruit being a part of Christmas. But ears of corn. The Germans considered corn on the cob as feed for their pigs. But they did not understand us. We loved our corn. Roasted or boiled, and then lathered with butter. Great finish as tiny glass beads cover the entire ornament. For an unbelievable radiance and sparkle. 3.75" and in very good condition. Glass ornament blown in Germany and hand painted there in the period between World War I and World War II—the Golden Age of Glass ornaments. This was a ... morecottage industry. A means for the Germans to make money during the winter when they could not work in the fields. The sons and fathers blew the ornaments. The girls and mom would silver the ornaments inside, and then individually paint the ornaments, and grandma would take to the train station in the spring when the others were back in the fields. Then they went to the sea coast, put on ships, and arrived in New York to be delivered across the country, and we used them to decorate our trees. The origin is Lauscha, Germany. We are an older couple which are down-sizing. And put up one tree in our den and one in our dining room. These ornaments did not fit on the trees this year, and it seems senseless to keep them in boxes in the back closet. A smaller sized ancient"Glass-Agate" or"Ribbon-Mosaic" type glass bead from the eastern Mediterranean Sea region. Possibly Geek or even Egyptian in origin, dating from the late"Hellenistic era" of bead making, circa 400 to about 200 BC or possibly later for this type. The construction technique is explained nicely on page 56 of James W. Lankton's book"A Bead Timeline" In general terms the technique was believed to have been started as a method of replicating the(at the time) difficult to find colorful banded agate beads. Some bead scholars think that the glass beads eventually became so popular that they were more sought after than the original agates. Fan Chinese Carved Bone Painted Peacock Feathers Silk Tassle with Glass Bead
Welcome to our auction for a very old Oriental fan. This fan is made of carved ox bone& peacock feathers. The carved bone is very pretty. Nicely carved in an open pattern. They are held with a brass hinge. The tassle is finished with silk mounted in what looks like a wooden bead, a clear glass bead, a tiny green Chinese knot. Very detailed paint, is definitely showing age, some crackling& chipping. There is a broken bone which was taped years ago by a previous owner. Feathers are fragile with one broken off on the end bone. Pictures show both front as well as the back. Open measurement from end to end across the fan is about 21" across. For auction this super antique/ vintage Edwardian Art Deco Glass Bead Flappers Evening bag c 1920's. A super genuine Art Deco period piece. Nice geometric deco patterns and a good weight being made from glass beads with faux Tortoiseshell fittings. The bag is in general good- fair antique condition commensurate with materials. Great age and use. In need of some minor restoration. The majority of the glass beads are present on both sides. With some bead loss on the loop fringe which is very easy to resolve by either adding beads or reducing and sharing the beads on each loop. The faux Tortoiseshell fittings are in general good condition. The clasp works and just needs a finial bead button adding on the top arm. One of the strap loops, joining the strap to the arm, is missing, again quite easy to resolve by adding a similar ring or removing ... morethe other ring and adding two new matching"O" rings. I believe it is of Chinese origin(basing that on the carved cinnabar and the carved brown bead) There are 10 beads ornately constructed with gilded rondelles and end pieces each hanging from a 15 1/2" gilded necklace that is stamped with the same pattern and is 10mm in width. The beads range from about 10mm to 20mm in width and on average hang about 1 1/2" down. There appears to be one missing since there is the black hanging bead as the photo shows. The 1st looks like a beautiful marble- next is an inlaid turqoise with an inlaid star pattern- then a orange peel like black bead that feels like celluloid to me- an olive brown carved with Chinese ... morecharacters and pictures- a orange and pale sky blue circular double bead that may be bakelite- a carved cinnabar with a lotus flower- a green/black/gold round bead that reminds me of a fountain pen material- a sapphire blue very odd shaped bead of glass(sort of looks like a head to me of an animal) a dark green ball of jade that has a cap of black celluloid and finally the last bead is a bright red bead with inlaid swirls of raised copper enamel and has a four petal topper. Lovely lot of antique glass beaded flowers! Large flower piece measures approx. 3& 3/4" long. 46 small stems measure from approx. 1/4" to 1/2" each head. Not including wire stem. The large flower piece appears to be all intact, is on original wire, has white petals with a delicate pink edge, and a good green color for leaves. The stems were found in an old piece of green clay, the stems were cleaned some but still a bit sticky. Colors include: yellow, pink, amber, blue, brown, pearl, white, lavender, green, etc. The heads are good, however, and stems can be cleaned further, wrapped in florist tape, clipped, or replaced. Some of these stems have an old leaf sequin, some have white vinyl flower head, some have a bead, the rest are of glass seed beads. All are original and old, probably pre-1940's. Antique German Pink, Silver Mercury Glass Bead Garland
This short length of antique Germany mercury glass bead Christmas tree garland has a red silk cord tassel at one end and a hook on the other. It can hang from a mirror. In a window, or be looped over the branches of the Christmas tree. It measures about 28 inches long and has 11 elongated double pike long drop or icicle shape ornaments or beads in silver, pink, and one clear glass. One silver bead has a deep pike chip at one end and there is some finish wear as shown. The bead at the 12 o clock position in the second photo has a spot of finish wear and discoloration from candle scorching but is not cracked, chipped, or broken. The surface has some expected corrosions. Minor internal hairline age fractures, minor chipping, weathering, wear, degradation and abrasions ... moreas a consequence of age and extended burial. Some original sedimentary dispositions remain on part of the surface. Origin: Bang Chiang Civilization ~ sourced in Thailand Age: This rare ancient bead dates to circa 500 BC– 300 BC History: Ban Chiang Civilization In the northeastern part of Thailand. At the confluence of three small tributary streams in Udon Thani province lays the Bronze Age village and cemetery site of Ban Chiang. Legend has it that Ban Chiang was discovered by a clumsy American college student. Who fell in the road of the present town of Ban Chiang. And found ceramics eroding out of the road bed. The first excavations at the site were conducted in 1967 by archaeologist Vidya Intakosai, and this and subsequent excavations by the Fine Arts Department in Bangkok and the University of Pennsylvania under the direction of Dr. Chester F. Gorman and Pisit Charoenwongsa have revealed evidence of prehistoric occupation beginning possibly as early as 3600 B.C. and continuing, probably intermittently, until a
