The ring is constructed by the very simple method of joining the bands by brazing both ends to a bezel. This was a rather primitive technique as opposed to rings which were cast in one piece, bands and bezel unified and not created separately, much like the style of a contemporary ring. The bezel either mimics a flower blossom of some sort, with a round center surrounded by a scalloped, wavy perimeter. The band as you can see is very simple, very much like a contemporary“solitaire” style ring. All of the metal work exhibits very fine workmanship, and is entirely intact– though it is obvious that the ring was worn in life. The ring was not originally recovered with a gemstone. And it is impossible to tell whether it was originally set with a gemstone; although in all likelihood it was not originally created with a gemstone. DETAIL: A nicely styled Roman-Byzantine bronze ring of a simple“solitaire” design. Of durable construction, ordinary bands brazed onto a“cup” style bezel. The cup style bezel here has a lip featuring finely serrated“teeth” which aside from being decorative, also help retain the gemstone within the bezel. The ring was not actually recovered with the original gemstone intact. A number of different types of adhesives were used in the ancient and medieval worlds, including commonly(for jewelry) with resin or bitumen. Such adhesives generally failed sooner or later, especially when exposed to the rigors of ordinary daily life. Generally then such rings are not recovered with the original gemstones intact, and this particular specimen was no exception. This is a very nice metal detected RING BROOCH from the 14/15th century. the little lable says it was found in Lincolnshire. and possibly French. well it could be. but these were also made in England as well during this period. As you can see it has partial gilding remaining on both sides and unusually it is decorated on both sides as well. The pin goes diagonal. making it a sort of diamond shape when worn.the pin would have originally hinged out. but alas it no longer does this. it has been GLUED in the centre of the pin too. overall nice condition.it is 2.5cm x 2.5cm x 3mm deep. A beautiful Antique Georgian Post Medieval Mourning ring with Coral. Split Pearls and Black Enamel. Beautiful coral in the centre with little split pearls at the quarters around, please note two tiny split pearls missing but a jeweller could replace these. A split pearl in each side of the shank, one pearl is a little greyer than the other but only noticeable under a loupe. Fabulous beading on the first part of the shank and ribbed around the back. Black enamel around the coral between pearls. Enamel in good condition, one tiny line does not quite go all the way down the side but not visible to the eye, cannot show in photo as it is too small. Ring very slightly oval. Size is approx. UK M, just under US 6.5. coral centre measures approx. 05 cm across. No marks but tests as 15ct gold. Very old ring. Medieval Renaissance Raised Box Bezel Ring Antique Ancient Enamel Museum circa
Ultra rare. Generally seen only in museums. Genuine gold renaissance ring, raised box bezel highly ornate and heavy with traces of enamel set with a later replaced circular cut red paste in an elaborate high collet setting between highly decorated elaborate scrolling shoulders. This rare ring is a stunning and exceptionally fine example of the lost art of the early gold smithing craft- a brilliant miniature architectural sculpture. Rare- never see these on the open market.
