The romantic style of the piece is emphasised by elegant scroll borders and the fluidity of the free flowing walnut grain. The wood is finished in a high shine polish which has protected the craftsmanship and colours of the tray. The tray is edged in a gilt gold rim with two secure handles to either side. Antique Mahogany Inlay Marquetry Wood Serving Tray-18'th-19'th Century-Federal
Stunning antique mahogany inlaid wood serving or butler's tray from the 1800's. Possibly earlier. A recent ee state sale find from a couple who emigrated from Holland in the 1930's. The tray is possibly Dutch but I cannot say for sure. It is an early piece judging from the patina of the wood on the underside of the tray and the unique style of the wooden handles. It measures 22" by 14 3/4" The tray is in beautiful condition. Missing 2 small pieces of inlay on the top of the outside rim. Difficult to capture in the pictures. There are a few very minor scratches on the top of the tray that could probably be buffed out. Overall condition is very good for it's age. This tray is a beautiful example of fine craftsmanship of days gone by. I was unable to find another like this one in my research. Most likely a one of a ... morekind piece. No international sales. I estimate this to be from the Early 1900's and I believe It to American in origin. I've seen only two other's similar to this one. One had a sticker indicating the maker was"Genuine Walnut Hand Finished made by Hawk-Wood New York.This Piece is all Wood except for the Brass Hinge and Screws by which the Lid is attached. The Base is covered with Brown Felt. This Butler is 7-1/8" in outside Diameter and Stands 1-3/4" High, the Handle is 5" Long and the Thumb Lever is 5/8" High. It has a Metal Tray/Dish Insert Inside, possibly originally intended to be able to empty an ashtray. This would display very nicely hanging on a wall. The hollowed Inside of the Base is 5-5/8" in Diameter ... moreand 5/8" Deep, the Item Weight is 1 lb. The Base and Handle appear to be Walnut or similar wood, the Lid looks like thick Walnut Wood Inlaid at Center of the Top, in which an Exquisite Mallard Duck/Geese are Masterfully Inlaid with Walnut and several other Lighter toned Woods. This work was obviously done by Someone Highly Skilled in Marquetry, the Mallard Ducks/Geese looks Very Realistic and Three Dimensional, the Detail is Top Shelf! The Lid is a bit dried out. Some kind of oil/polish would definitely bring this back the wood. There is a small nik on the left side of the lid and is documented in the photos. Vtg 1960's Handmade Inlaid Wood Bone Hexagon Marquetry Tray - 12" - Spain
We purchased this tray in 1969 at an open air market in Spain- can't remember if it was outside of Barcelona or Granada. The intricately designed tray is handcrafted of small pieces of inlaid wood and bone. Measures 15" x 13" x 3/4" Because it was only used for display. It has no drink rings or scratches on it. There is a hairline crack in clear varnish on one inner border which isn't very noticeable. Vintage Marquetry Inlay Butterfly Wing Tray Exquisite design and color brings this tray to life. The center of the tray has a blue Morpho butterfly in a circle of white wings. The corners of the tray has a fan design in four different wings and the background is mostly brown with blue iridescent wings. It is framed in inlay marquetry and I believe the wood with the handles is Brazilian rosewood. Measures 20-1/4" long by 13-1/4" wide and the glass area is 15-1/4" by 11-1/4" There is a label on the back dating it to June 1953(see photo#7) Has a hook at the top for hanging. In very good to excellent condition and comes in a very well preserved state.

This is an Art Deco 1930's-40's inlaid mahogany wood tray made in Brazil. The center has Morpho butterflies and butterfly wings designed in a beautiful pattern. The glass protecting the butterflies measures L 11 1/4" X W 71/4" The colors are iridescent blue. Burnt orange, brown and black and burnt umber.The tray measures L 16 1/4" X W 9 1/8" The inlaid wood marquetry is done in three different kinds of wood. The darker colored wood I believe is ebony. This kind of craftsmanship is truly a dying art. On the back is a metal picture loop so this work of art can be hung on your wall. There isn't any damage to the butterflies or any of the wings. The glass doesn't have any scratches on it. There is a tiny hole on the wood by one of the handles and it is about the size of the end of a pencil tip. Vtg 1960's Handmade Inlaid Wood Bone Round Marquetry Tray 11 3/4" Spain?
This is a vintage inlaid with several different things such as colored wood and faux ivory or bone. It has a lacquered finish that has some fine cracks to it. along the bottom edge where it attaches to another piece of wood it has asome pieces that have lifted and are missing. See the pictures. It does have a wall hanger on the back. If you hang it you cannot see the areas that have the damage they are on the top. It also doesn't look like it was ever used as a serving tray. It measures 11 3/4" and is 5/8" thick at the edge. i am guess it from Spain as most of these were made in Spain that I have seen before. There is a lighter inlay perimeter to accentuate the flowers. This inlay perimeter is followed by a border of darker wood that leads to raised lengthwise edges and artfully curved handles on the ends. The flowers include a Rose with two leaves. Dogwood blossoms with leaves and smaller blossoms, and a duo of Black-eyed Susan flowers. Each tray measures 19 inches x 12 3/8 inches x 1 1/4 inches(at the handles) Again. Donated for church funds. Large tray with marquetry flower design and a brass coloured metal gallery frame and handles. I do not know if these are brass or a gilded metal. It weighs just under 2kg hence postage price. 21" length-23" including handles. 16" across. From others I have seen it seems that these come from Sorrento. I have not cleaned it apart from wipe with a damp cloth as I seem to be spend quite a lot of time cleaning up donations and often it's just not worth the effort for the price they fetch after fees.
