The Coasters are of quite a large size. Easily holding a full size bottle of Champagne or a Large Decanter as seen in our photos. The Coasters shows wear throughout to the Brass base metal, but it actually looks like the Coasters are Gold Gilt and lends a very rich look to them in my opinion. The Bottoms of the Coasters are carved wood, Mahogany I believe and they show nice age shrinkage as you want to see but are also still solid with only the most minor looseness(they do not fall out) The Coasters are unmarked, but a lot of early Victorian Silver never was marked and judging by the quality they were made by a fine period Silver company. The Cast fancy designs around the top are applied in sections, the lines you see in the photos are original and not cracks, there is no cracks throughout. The Coasters are one of the fanciest pairs I have sold in some time with lovely cast border designs and fine pierced patterns throughout. The Coasters also feature nice Carved Wood inserts to the bottoms. Mahogany I believe and they show good wear and age shrinkage as you want to find, but they have pins securing them in place so they are still solid and practical for modern use. The Coasters are unmarked as much earlier Victorian Silver never was but I am sure judging by the fine quality they were made by a reputable firm of the period. The Coasters show a nice dark patina with some wear throughout but no dents or cracks. The Coasters are a nice size for modern use holding Wine Bottles or as we have shown, Antique Decanters from our personal collection, measuring 6" across and holding a bottle up to 3-7/8" wide A nice pair for use and display or they would make a fine gift. Beautiful vintage 1940-50's era Fine Arts Sterling dining accessories lot with their original boxes. Included are a large wine coaster. 6 salt cellars with 5 sterling salt spoons(sorry we are missing 1 salt spoon) and 4 drink coasters. All have beautiful sterling on the outside with an embossed detailed rim and an embossed glass insert. The glass embossing is very unique as it appears to be a turtle on the bottom with a large bird on top and on top of the bird a shell of sorts with a serpent? Not sure if this is accurate but just describing as I see it. Each piece is well marked Fine Arts Sterling, very well made and quite heavy. The coasters all have crystal glass bottoms. One close inspection. One can see that it is actually two sets of four drink coasters. They all look so similar that they make a great set. Each piece is marked sterling somewhere on the rim. Four are marked: STERLING/ By Raimond and four are marked FRANK M WHITING& CO/ early Whiting& Davis mark) STERLING/ 04/ PAT PENDING. The wine coaster is marked W/Sterling/ The wine coaster measures about 4 ½” in diameter and the others measure about 4” in diameter.
