Separation, repairs or damage- box exterior paint has lots of rubbing, chipping, scratches and paint wear- hinges are strong and latch works great with no warping- fitted interior lifts out with ease and original lid is still in place- paper note is very tan with age and the paper fitted into the box inner lid is very fragile and crisp- I'm afraid to touch or remove it for fear of causing damage. I would guess the lamp is Italian in origin with a tole painted tea canister urn design. The lamp is in good condition with minimal wear The lamp works perfectly. An very nice antique Toleware Tea Canister or Caddy. Early 19th century, New England. This fine Tea Canister measures 8" tall and 4" diameter. The early stenciled Peony or Rose design are in shades of muted red, yellow-gold and worn gold gilt with a faded greenish-gold band on the sloped top of the canister and at the top and bottom of the body. The black paint is worn overall with scratched areas of shiny silver tin showing through, the stenciled flower design is faded and worn. There are two dents at the top seam and a dimple on the top slope. The seams are tight and there are no holes. The lid comes off an goes on fine. The Pomegranate and leaf and tendril design are in shades of green, red, off white, and black with a green leaf design on the sloped top of the canister. The black paint worn overall with some scratched areas of shiny silver tin showing through, the painted fruit is lightly crackled however it is still in fairly good condition and color, the top leaves are a bit crackled and worn. This unique c.1880 hand-painted and stenciled Tea Canister is of L. J. Callanan's'41' Brand. He was a notable late 19th century retailer and activist. The significance of the number"41" Brand is reflected in his quote: As a trademark. I adopted the number 41 of the house where I worked as a boy, and where I passed the happiest hours of my life, as a trade-mark. The number Is sacred to me. Goods that bear that number, with my name, will always be up to the standard In purity, quality and weight. This is a special canister. And beautiful piece of New York City history. This vintage item dates to the 19th Century and is the French all Hand Painted/ Decorated Toleware tall jar/tea canister. This is the tin metal with the all hand decorated enamel painted piece that measures 13" tall and 8" wide. Great condition.
