A fabulous handmade in Italy Tole ware lamp circa 1940 to'60s. A Florentine fantasy storybook piece. Cream/white wrought iron with colorful floral accents, tiny bell or tulip shaped flowers and a large bell shaped shade over a faux candle, quite charming. It measures about 21 3/4" high. The condition is very good. Some paint chipping, lightest rust and dirt giving it a wonderful patina which I have left as is. French Tole Polychrome Painted Iron Espaliers Glass Pear Apple Fruit Trees NR
This is a pair of gorgeous vintage French Espaliers. Made sometime in the early 20th Century in France. Espalier is a French word for growing trees in a flat wide manner. These are hand painted iron trees. The lower pot they are mounted in is a heavy cast iron. The tree portion is a hollow tubular metal or iron with flat metal leaves. They a cast iron top pan with arrow finial. One has glass apples on it the other has glass pears. Outstanding pieces. Unsigned. Very high quality. I have seen similar glass apples and pears on French chandeliers and lamps. But nothing like these trees. The only other similar one I found was a bit smaller with birds instead of fruit. And it was a single one which sold for over $600. The paint appears to be all original other than the pink on the base and on the finial. Which looks newer. The glass fruits are ... moreattached with wires. Same as they would be is they were crystal prisms. Each tree is missing one fruit. I believe it is Italian, dating to the mid 20th century( 60s-70s) It is finished in its original ebonized black finish, and adorned with crystal pendants as can be noted in the images provided. Additional images are available upon request. The lamp is in overall very good vintage condition, meaning that it is structurally sound without breaks. It is in working condition too. Original cylindrical plastic sleeves where the bulbs are screwed show wear, and probably should be replaced. May also be missing a couple of crystal drops which are very easily replaced. Does not retain original ceiling canopy cap or hardware which is also easily replaced, as is typical with older pre-owned chandeliers/ lamps. The lamp is very large. c1820 American Federal Painted tinned iron octagonal Tole Tray
This 15& 1/2 inches long tray(largest dimension) was produced in southern New England or Eastern Pennsylvania between 1810 and 1830 period. Hence the c1820 mid-date. It is constructed from one piece of tinned iron with precisely cut and bent sides and soldered corners to create its octagonal shape. Pale yellow borders with orange/red flowers, green leaves and black berries, joined by drapery swag motifs at the corners with black detailing. The age of this tray falls within the older end of painted American tinned sheet iron. And as such. It was created entirely by hand and not by machine stamping or pressing to form its octagonal shape. Furthermore, the hand painted motif consists of leaves, flowers and round berries in the style of hand painted pearlware popular among the lower and middle classes in the 1795 to 1820 period. There are ... moreno tin makers names or other maker's marks on this tray. Octagonal shaped trays were an early product of tin makers from Pennsylvania to New York. Connecticut and on up through New England. Trays from the 1830s and 1840s typically have larger flowers and wider painted central bands than the tray listed here. SIZE: This octagonal metal tray measures 15& 1/2 inches long by 11 inches wide with a 1& 1/8 inch wide raised flange or outer edge that rises about 1 inch above the body at a 45 degree angle(see all photos) The tray sits on a flat base that measures about 13& 3/4 inches long by 9& 1/2 inches wide and its weight when empty is 1 lb. 1.2 oz. This tray is a perfect size for displaying along a shelf or mantle, on a counter top, table or in a china cabinet or hutch and will certainly capture attention in most any setting. CONDITION: This used tray is in very good antique condition with slight oxidation and paint loss to be expected with an 180 years+ old object. No dents or repair. Presents handsomely.
