Small Primitive Vintage Hand Painted Toleware Tin Box Hinged Lid Spice Box or? I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and shop with another ebayer seller from out of town recently- a real catfish moment. Because we’ve talked for years, but never met! No surprises, just all fun and did we shop until we dropped! I have lots of very cool items for you that I will be listing all week. Enjoy! This old box is somewhat of a mystery to me. It's made from a metal that a magnet stick to- and it's light and definitely has the feel and weigh of tin. But if you look closely at the inside, it has a patination that looks very much like the pattern on galvanized steel(but this doesn't have the weight of steel) Look at my inside photos and see what you think- it's a first for me. The other thing that would support whether it's galvanized ... moreis that, although the metal shows darkness form age, it does not have rust- there's rust colored spots, but I do think that is from the paint. Whatever it's made of, it's held up very very well.this one is a charmer. Measuring 3" square and 2 1/2" tall, it is the size of the spice boxes that I have seen, but there's no name etc. on it. It weighs a smidge under 1/4 lb. It has a lovely hand painted finish- the background of the body is gold, and the top and bottom are black, and they are accented with flowers on all 4 sides in shades of rust, green, burgundy and grey. The top of the lid, and the sides of the lid have thin line hand painted borders too. The hinged lid works perfectly, and the lid fits well, and stays securely in place. It really is in excellent solid and sturdy condition overall- I can't find a ding. There is wear to the finish all over in small scratches and scrapes- it's easier to see at the solid black on top. There's also some palpable small white spots on all 4 sides- see photo 4 for a good example- those aren't paint chips, those are something on TOP of the paint- it feels like paper to me- as if this was wrapped i

Antique Italian Rose Tole Footed Metal Document Box Hinged Lid Marked ITALY
A fantastic and quite rare example of a genuine Italian tole document box. Large in size. It measures 8" wide x 5.75" deep x 8.25" tall exclusive of decoration. The metal roses and leaves add to the overall size. Heavy- weighs just under 4 pounds. This is not a traditional painted tin. Lightweight document box. Classic tole metal flowers and leaves decorate the piece. The flower on top is a beautifully formed open rose. Painted a cream color with green leaves and a touch of orange on some of the flowers. Gold. Ball-shaped feet. Arched lid is hinged and opens and closes freely. There is a place for a lock on the front. I'm not sure if it could be used at this point as the lid and base are not perfectly lined up. There is an impressed"ITALY" mark on one of the end panels. Just below the leaf. I have pointed it out ... morein the photos because it didn't show up well in the photos. This is a genuine piece of Italian Toleware. Paint is chippy with some metal showing. Vintage Hand Painted Red Gold Toleware Tole Hinged Box Raised Dome Lid with Latch. The box measures 6 1/4 inches by 4 1/4 inches. The raised section on the lid measures 4 inches by 2 inches. There is a spot of red wax on the lid which made me think that the box was used for sealing wax and other stationary items. I am pretty sure this is not a florentine toleware box. It is more substantial. I also think it is older- I am thinking of the ones that were popular in the 1960's. There is wear to the gold trim. No chips or cracks.
