Kreamer Manufacturing, is embossed on the bottom. This tin was painted in the 1950's by an artisan on Cape Ann. MA. She used antique trays, boxes, pitchers, scoops, etc. for the base of her art. In the Cape Ann area there was no shortage of good antique metalware to use. The clear lacquer. And some of the paint, has reticulated in some areas. This listing is for a 19th century. Beautiful old tin toleware box. Beautiful paint decorated front panal in orange and green and elaborate end panals with a floral decoration. A larger box, measuring 9 1/2" long x 6 1/2" high x 5 1/2" deep. Does have most paint decoration worn from top and front top edge, see pictures. A little rust to inside, mostly corners, see pictures. Brown on bottom is worn japaning and not rust. Lid has a loop handle. Please view all eleven pictures and e-mail any questions. A great display piece! Insurance included. 1860 Heavy Tin American Decorated Art Sewing Box Drawers Patriotic Flag on top
Rare heavy tin handpainted and decorated sewing box. early Americana! The lid lifts back to reveal an upper metal tray to hold specific sewing items(not original to case) but molded areas hold a thimble. Scissors, bone handled brush and more. Lift the tray out and inside there are two decorated drawers and an open space for work. Under the lid is a mirror hand decorated with striping on the frame. The overall dimensions are 10 x 7.5 x 6.5 inches. The top has a scrolled like design in a gold paint with a flag pennant inside. The paint was originally a dark red with gold striping. PR. of 19TH CENTURY GREEN PAINTED TIN TOLE DECORATED ARGAND LAMP type SCONCES
This is a wonderful and scarce Pair of 19th Century Green Painted Tin Tole Decorated Argand Lamp type Sconces. They each measure approximately 9-3/4" tall. The construction of cut and rolled edges and form matches on both examples. The hand decoration shows similar characteristics. But with subtle differences, leading us to believe they were decorated by different people in the workshop. Both show a ge appropriate wear and losses to the paint decoration. Only one retains the removable fuel tank inside the housing. The other retains only the top visible portion of the fuel tank. There are minor dents. Wear and losses as shown in the photos. The only visible markings are hand written'No 294' on the back of each. We lean towards an American origin attribution. But we leave that final determination to the buyer. The form is not often ... moreseen. Let alone with original decoration, they would certainly be a wonderful addition to any early lighting collection or to accessorize a 19th century country or primitive setting. Description: EXCEPTIONAL. Early 19th Century TIN DOCUMENT BOX, in Original condition. CHROMOLITHOGRAPHIC FLORAL DECORATION. Done in a classic TOLEWARE Style, is still 90% or better complete, better than I have ever found in this area. ALL ORIGINAL. The colors of Turquoise, Red, and Yellow, though now muted with age, are still relatively bright. Many of these old Tin boxes were faded over the years, or worn, so were then handpainted over the decoration. This one is ALL ORIGINAL, and has never been altered or painted over. Even the TRIM lines are still relatively complete. Again. There is WEAR and muting, but still very very discernible and bright, without being garish. Large-domed lid still has most of the golden TRIM around it. Even the golden DECORATION around the top handle is still nearly complete. SIZE: Approx 9 1/2" long. 8 3/4" ... morehigh. Not counting handle. 6 1/8" deep. CONDITION: Very very good. Best I have ever had. HOWEVER, the LATCH is MISSING. I can pick up by handle and it stays closed, when EMPTY. One small, 1" sep at back. This is a tin canister. Toleware. It is 13" across and 5" high. Which is relatively large. The inside of the cover can serve as a tray. It is old and there is some rust on the inside. As shown in the photo. It is difficult to get the cover off as it fits tightly. The design of a horse pulled wagon with 2 Amish people riding inside is very charming. There is a bird. ANTIQUE PAINTED DECORATED TIN & GLASS BAYER'S THUROSCOPE "WINDOW MIRROR" C. 1900
This Thuroscope is quite a rare gadget that dates from about 1900. In a search online. We found a reference to a Thuroscope in a newspaper ad in The Utica Sunday Tribune in February 1900. The text of the ad reads: Thuroscope or Window Mirror. To place outside the window so objects can be seen up or down the street from inside the house. See them. Elting& Gray, 64 Genesee St. The Thuroscope is made of tin and glass. The tin is beautifully decorated with a gold banner in the center on which are the words"Bayer's Thuroscope" A leafy wreath encircles the banner. A red bow is at the bottom of the wreath. A flaming torch with a small version of the same wreath overlaying the torch is depicted on each of the two side panels. The rest of the tin is painted black. Two mirrors are on the back side. On the top 1 inch wide tin edges ... moreare thin tin enclosures that appear to be for the purpose of holding wires to attach something or to suspend the Thuroscope. There is a separate rectangular piece that is composed of black painted tin and a glass mirror. This separate piece has a wire inserted into tin channels on its narrow edge. This wire can be moved up and down at different angles. Its free end may have been inserted into something else. Possibly one of the tin channels on top of the main piece. Or alternatively, the purpose of the movable wire may have been to adjust the angle of this separate mirror. It has another tin channel on the back for inserting a wire also. We are scratching our heads over how this was placed relative to a window and how the two pieces worked with each other to capture views from up and down the street. There are signs of wear, some scratches and minor losses to the paint and soiling. We have left it uncleaned and untampered with. The condition of the paint and decoration is excellent for its age. The watering can is made of tin and it has a swing handle. The watering can retains most of its original ox blood paint which is stencil decorated in gold with different types of stylized leaves and urns. The watering can is lidded. When the handle is up this piece stands 16 1/8" in height. Traditional rectangular hinged top spice box with six individual circular cannisters with lids on interior. Daughter told me her mother painted this back in the 1950s and did everything free hand. Exterior of box is painted with colorful conforming repetitive fruit and geometric designs with traditional swags and foliate decoration. The six individual cannisters are painted with unique characters on each cover. The lady would divide her paycheck each week and place the appropriate sum in each of the six different cannisters. One with the cherries indicated her food budget. HERE I HAVE A BEAUTIFUL EARLY TIN PAINT DECORATED TEA CADDY ON A RETICULATED STANDING BASE WITH A HINGED LID IT IS REALLY IN GREAT CONDITION WITH GREAT COLOR AND DESIGN. THERE IS VERY MINOR SURFACE WEAR. IT STANDS 6 1/2 IN H X 5 1/2 IN WIDE THE DESIGN AND EXECUTION OF THIS IS GREAT FOR A EARLY PAINTED TIN PIECE THE DETAILED PANELS ARE DONE IN A VERY ORNATE FLORAL MOTIF. THE RAISED BASE IS STRONG WITH HAND ROLLED FEET. A very nice antique tin or tole document box. It has been hand painted/stenciled using bronze powders and lacquer. The black paint finish has aged very nicely with interesting crackling and crazing. If you do not like distressed pieces. You probably should not be interested in this piece as it is age appropriately distressed. Inside is fairly clean with a little rusting here and there. This auction is for a vintage 19th century smoke decorated tin spittoon. This is a rare example of paint decorated tinware. It is in very good to excellent condition.
