The piece is nicely decorated with a gold gilt in a Dove& Ivy decor. The bowl has scalloped edges on two sides and measures 11 1/4 inches long x 7 3/4 inches wide x 2 3/4 inches tall. The piece has"Pat. Applied For" impressed in the bottom of the Tin. Minor paint chips missing overall, with signs of surface rust(patina) beneath, surface scratches and other signs of use and wear. Early 19th century japanned tin toleware bread tray or basket with original asphaltum painted surface. Decoration is strikingly similar to examples from the Filley tinshop in Philadelphia. Entirely hand crafted with edges rolled over wire. Paint loss to bottom and inside center as expected. Border-yellow. Salmon, green and blue-green on a grey-white band-is in very good condition with minimal loss. 13" long x 8" wide. 3 1/4" high, largest measurements.
