Antique French Tole Painted Crackled Finish Toleware Paper Mache Washtub Basin
Up for auction is this rather unusual Antique basin or washtub believed to be of French origin and constructed of paper mache resulting in a very sturdy and waterproof item. This wonderful item was purchased some years back from a retired antique dealer's private collection. We did not really know where to list it and chose the toleware category for the whimsical hand painted scenes depicted on the tub. Bright beautifully colored medieval period dancing figures on a teal blue crackled background. Inside of tub has a crackled brown tone finish. Measures 17" wide x 14" deep x 7.5" high. This is a wonderful very old paper mache folding shelf. It folds flat for easy mailing and storage. Width 13 1/4" x height 10 3/4" x depth 6 5/8" Two holes on back piece to mount on the wall. The center piece comes out and the shelf lays on top of that and attached with a hook/eye seen in picture 3. The roses look decoupaged on and are white. Yellow, and pink. This is a wonderful. Very old paper mache folding shelf. It folds flat for easy mailing and storage. Width 7" x height 4 3/4" x depth 3 1/2" There are two holes on back piece to mount on the wall. The center piece is hinged and comes out; the shelf lays on top of that and is attached with a hook/eye. This one has one bird on the left side and numerous daisies and blue flowers on the back side and also both sides of the center piece. It is in excellent condition. The bird and flowers look perfect. There are a few marks where the shelf comes down on the center piece and the underside of the hardware spots. As you might expect. Please take a careful look at the photos. Antique Paper Mache Hand Painted Tole Tray Cherubs Man Woman Peacock Flowers
This is a beautiful antique papier-mâché/ paper mache hand painted tole tray with cherubs. A man and woman, a peacock and many flowers. It measures 16 inches x 12 1/4 inches(40.6 cm x 31.1 cm) Its depth measures 7/8 inch(2.2 cm) I'm not sure as to its age. But I would think it's late 19th century to early 20th century. The edges all curve up and the corners have a lovely design. Giving it a great dimensional look. The background is a dark burgundy color. The painting on it is beautifully done with wonderful detail. The cherubs appear to be watching over the couple in love. It has some damage to it. Though I believe it happened many years ago as it is now mostly dark. There is damage measuring approximately 1 inch x 1/2 inch just above the cherubs. There are two pieces of damage measuring approximately 1/2 inch x 1/4 inch ... moreabove the couple and a line approximately 1 inch long just to the left of the lady. There's a chip in the top left corner approximately 1/4 inch x 1/4 inch. There's also one 1/4 inch x 1/4 inch in the bottom right corner. Each corner has light separation of the papier-mâché and there is light chipping around the edges. But the tray is still very solid and sturdy. There are tiny dings to the tray front, but personally I think they just give it its old world look. It weighs 1 lb. 5 oz. 594 g)

2 Antique Victorian Black Paper Mache Hand Painted Bird Fish Wall Pocket Holder This is a nice pair of antique Victorian black paper mache wall pockets or letter holders. These are painted black with painted bird and fish motifs on each one. They have black paint loss. Splits in the paint and there is a small chunk off of one of the edges that is 1/2 inch long. One of the bottom pieces is separated at the edge I tried to take a lot of pictures to show the damage closeup. Fortunately there is no paint loss on the actual design- just seems to be on the black which could be easily touched up if you'd like. There are also two white stickers on the back of one of them that I didn't have time to try to remove. Each one is 13 1/2 inches wide. 9 inches tall and 4 1/4 inches deep.
