The Candlesticks feature lovely Repousse designs throughout and are of a nice taller size for use on a Mantle. Sideboard etc, standing 7-3/4" tall and measuring 4-1/4" wide across the weighted bases. The Candlesticks are quite heavy with their weighted bases so there is no worries about them tipping over easily, even if you use long tapers for a dramatic look. The Candlesticks are simply marked Made in England, but judging by the fine quality I believe they are by Barker Ellis or another of the top English companies of the period. Tea in early 18 Century was expensive and was drunk in the famous pleasure gardens in London and the very Wealthy of the Colonies. Early tea caddies were small and made in precious materials. All caddies carried locks on them and it was typical in the 18 th century for the lady of the house to keep the caddy key on her chatelaine around her waist. This meant the servant and butler of the house would not be tempted to try such a precious commodity. Tea caddies by 1780 began to be made in walnut. Mahogany and were often Satinwood cross banded. They began to become larger from 1784 when the hated tea tax was removed. An emergent middle class could start to take tea for the first time as the average price of tea dropped by three shilling a pound. c 1850 Victorian Paper Mache Domed Box ~ Tea Caddy w/ Inlaid Mother of Pearl Circa 1850 Victorian Era Paper Mache Domed Lid Box ~ Tea Caddy with Exquisite Mother of Pearl Inlay and Gold Gilt Decorated Accents. It measures approximately 12 1/2" x 9 1/2" wide and 5 3/4" high to the top of the lid. Condition: Condition is good but not perfect. For accuracy purposes- there are two chips along scallop rim located underneath the box. Shown in the photos this does not detract from the beauty, you cannot detect unless you turn the box updown to view. The lid has two areas of roughness from wear along the scallop rim along the backside, this also does not detract at all. The ebony lacquered surface shows correct, age commensurate crazing and light wear. On one hinge the screws have been stripped at some point in time causing the box ... morenot to align correctly when closed as viewed from the backside, the front does line up. The hinges are still functional as is or you can chose to repair. The interior is very clean. A true gem of a piece! This beautiful box is all hand painted with flowers. Gilt accents and inlaid mother of pearl. Beautiful original paint, hand painted gold gilt and inlaid mother of pearl decoration. The box has a lock but no key and it is missing the top portion of the hasp. The underside shows age appropriate wear with minor losses, as shown in the photos. Some areas of paint loss commensurate with age. Condition is good for age. Over 160 years old. Antique Deed Box, English Scene
This is a very cool piece. It is of English origin. I acquired it at a London sale. It has normal wear from when it has been stored or moved. There are a lot of scrape marks on the front where the words"Deed Box" appear but it does not detract from the charm of this piece. Over all the paint is in very good condition. It is not flaking or peeling. I am not able to measure it right now but it is about 18" wide. 5" deep and 14" from front to rear. The hinge is in very good working order as is the hasp. There are no holes or cracks. Best of luck.

Antique Victorian English Papier Mache Folding Shelf Bird 19th C Paper Mache Art
This is a wonderful. Very old paper mache folding shelf. It folds flat for easy mailing and storage. Width 7" x height 4 3/4" x depth 3 1/2" There are two holes on back piece to mount on the wall. The center piece is hinged and comes out; the shelf lays on top of that and is attached with a hook/eye. This one has one bird on the left side and numerous daisies and blue flowers on the back side and also both sides of the center piece. It is in excellent condition. The bird and flowers look perfect. There are a few marks where the shelf comes down on the center piece and the underside of the hardware spots. As you might expect. Please take a careful look at the photos. You Do Not Find These Anymore! RARE! Superb example of Antique Hand Painted Papier Mache Artisan work. This piece is from the 1800's and is in truly wonderful condition for its age. Handmade scalloped edges with exquisite gold leaf detail. I cannot depict a true signature on this piece. Which does not mean it may not be in the scene itself as the artistry is that of an historically talented individual that captures boys fishing on the grounds of historical Warwick Castle. Originally built by William the Conqueror in 1068; Warwick is in the county town of Warwickshire, England, situated on the bend of the River Avon. This original wooden motte-and-Bailey castle was rebuilt in stone in the 12th Century.The hand painted scene is flanked by a Mother of Pearl scalloped border, then again with beautifully scrolled gold leaf delicate vines and ... moreleaves.
