This is a truly rare find: a shabby chic antique enamelware or granite ware or if you like tole ware rack from just after the turn of the century. Once upon a time nearly every French home had one hanging near the cooking stove. Ladles and skimmers hung from them handily at arms reach and the large bottom tray would catch any drips keeping the kitchen surfaces clean. Blue and White is the color of choice for most french kitchens and this tool rack was designed to fit right in with that scheme. It measures 19 inches tall by 12 inches wide and the tray extends about 4 inches. Although originally designed for kitchens I have seen them used here in France in bathrooms as a practical towel. Well crafted antique tole painted box with original painted robin's egg blue interior. The painted decoration is rather worn on the top. Less worn on the front and sides. The paint is all original, and the painted designs are the same on the top and sides. The box measures abou 5x12x7 inches and is divided into three compartments on the inside. Condition is as shown in the pictures. The latch on the front is bent, but it works fine and could probably be easily straightened. Nice example of mid to late 1800s American metal work. From France a painted tole box for matches. This is the kind of accessory that was in each and every kitchen in France over 100 years ago. By the stove or the fire place stood the match holder so matches would be handy when the time came to start the fire. This match holder is painted tole from the 1910. It shows geometrical pale blue designs on an off-white color. It bears the word"allumettes' matches) On its'backsplash' are 3 holes so the holder could be wall mounted. The holder has a cover. The piece is in good condition even if the designs are missing on a few spots. This is a true old charming piece right on the spot for a country feeling.
