Rare 19th C Constant Joseph Brochart Lithograph Tin Art Tray You are viewing a Very Rare Antique Lithographed/Painted Tray based off the Original Artwork of French Painter CONSTANT JOSEPH BROCHART(1816- 1899) I believe this tray dates to the mid to late 1800's. But I'll leave it to the experts to determine it's exact age. The tray depicts a stunning image of a Victorian woman. There is what appears to be a family crest near the woman's right shoulder(please see photo) The crest looks like a Sphinx within a shield with a crown on top. Near the woman's left should is Constant Joseph Brochart's printed signature. It reads CJ BROCHART(please see photo) The lithographed or painted image is in Good shape showing bold colors and detailed graphics. From my brief research. I believe that this piece may have once had a decorative ... moreouter rim, but I'm not 100% sure. It does have some condition issues, even though it displays nicely. The lithograph or paint shows very subtle crazing. There are a few chips to the finish, mainly along the outer rim(gold gilt) The tray is bent somewhat out of round as seen in the side views. It is no longer perfectly round. The back of the tray shows loss to the cream colored finish. Despite the flaws mentioned. This remains a very scarce piece that still displays well. Antique 19th C. Tin Toleware Match Keep with Handle
Really lovely ruby red toleware match keep or splint holder. Possibly Connecticut tinware. It has hand painted floral decoration on one side with a dark red tulip like flower and green stem flowing up one side. It also has complimentary decoration circling at the top rim and bottom and a loop handle with a hole for hanging. It may have had a lid at one time. Really nice piece with some dents and paint loss. Antique 19th C Fries Tin Grain Painted Toleware Primitive Spice Box Kitchenware
Up for auction is an antique Fries& Co tin toleware spice box recently found at auction in the Lancaster County. PA area. It is found in good used condition, but is missing one of the interior individual spice boxes, as seen best in photo#2. The exterior is grain painted in a yellow and yellow color, but quite dirty. This entire piece could benefit from a good cleaning. There are several scratches on this box, with losses to the paint on all sides. The bottom of the tin is unpainted. It has a hasp on the side. In the day, spices were valuable and locked when not being used. The top of the box has a swing handle so it can be easily carried where needed. The overall case measures approximately 9 5/8" x 6 5/8" x 3 3/8" in size. Each individual spice box measures approximately 3" x 3" x 2 1/4" without the acorn ... morefinial. VINTAGE TEA CADDY TIN w OLD TOLE PAINTING 19th CENTURY ?? please read - antique
I am quite familiar with antiques and recognize something old but I can't claim to be an expert on tinware. For that reason I am unsure of the age of this beautiful Tea Caddy. I have included 12 photos and will do the best I can to describe the tin and you can decide or feel free to ask questions. Which I will be happy to answer. The tea caddy is 6 7/8" tall and 5' in diameter at the bottom. Please note in the last photo a shallow dent on the right side, halfway between where the painting ends and the side seam. The interior is"galvanized" I think there might be a more appropriate term- but I think galvanized will do. All the paint is faint. The sides appear to have been painted all over with a pale green very similar to olive drab. There are gold bands of approx. 3/8" at the top and bottom. In fact, the gold and ... moreperhaps the black, seem to be the only colors in the design that have held up. Apparently, one of the original colors was acidic enough that it etched into the metal precisely enough that the pattern it was applied to is still visible- now as etching rather than paint. The entire painted area is VERY faint but the word"TEA" can be made out in the center along with a few gold flowers and some geometric patterns. The etched areas are mostly leaves/vines. This leads me to believe the color that did the etching was green. The lid fits snugly but removes easily as it should and all the seems are tight. I have no doubt one could fill this with water and it would never leak. It appears there might have been paint- and perhaps a pattern- on the lid at one time but little remains. This is not a"bright" piece. I believe the first photo is a fair representation of how it would appear sitting on a shelf. It is as-found. I have done nothing to it. I've done the best I can. Antique 19th century earlier tole Mirror wall Sconces Distressed & Fashionable
The sconces measure about 13 inches tall by 5 1/2 inches wide. They are heavily oxidized and the mirrors are completely distressed. One sconce is weak where it meets the drip pan edge that runs vertical in a semicircular form. The bobeche or candle holder tabs go through the bottom and are soldered in place. Antique Victorian English Papier Mache Folding Shelf Bird 19th C Paper Mache Art
This is a wonderful. Very old paper mache folding shelf. It folds flat for easy mailing and storage. Width 7" x height 4 3/4" x depth 3 1/2" There are two holes on back piece to mount on the wall. The center piece is hinged and comes out; the shelf lays on top of that and is attached with a hook/eye. This one has one bird on the left side and numerous daisies and blue flowers on the back side and also both sides of the center piece. It is in excellent condition. The bird and flowers look perfect. There are a few marks where the shelf comes down on the center piece and the underside of the hardware spots. As you might expect. Please take a careful look at the photos. Offered for auction is this original antique 19th century French Empire Tole Wall clock. The original tole painting is still present. Some losses and checking that adds to its character. The hand painted porcelain face is in very good condition with only a few tiny chips on the edge. There is a little damage to the front bottom you can see in the photos. The clock was serviced several years ago and is very clean. Comes with the original pendulum and a newer key. Original Antique 19th-Century Brass Bed Warmer Pan Really neat collector's item Measurements: 109.1 x 13cm_ 43 x 51 inches Hanging a warming pan near the hearth is not just a decorator's idea. The fireplace was always a sensible place for it. So it could easily be filled with glowing coals or wood embers before being taken away to warm the bed. Using a hot stone or brick heated at the fireside is one way of carrying warmth from the hearth into bed. By the 16th century people were also taking pans filled with smouldering fuel from the fire itself. The well-known brass or copper warming pan on a handle was not the only way of doing this. There were also wooden frames designed to hold pots of fuel inside the bedclothes. See lower down the page) A warming pan. Sometimes known as a bed warmer nowadays, was a valuable family possession ... morehanded down from generation to generation, but not so expensive that it was only for the rich. If you were very wealthy you might have a silver one, or a warmer. Some of the most ornate warming pans have an elaborate pattern of perforations incorporated in the design. But not all warming pans had. This difference would have been crucial for the servant or housewife using the pan. With air holes. The embers would keep smouldering, the heat would last longer, but the bed would probably smell of fumes and there was an increased risk of scorching the sheets. The smell was not always of wood or coal; in some parts of the UK it was burning peat. In 19th-century England fully enclosed warming pans seem to have been popular: cleaner perhaps. But the heat would have died down more quickly. Some warming-pans with solid lids were used with hot water. Others were completely open like this from the French Alps. Up for auction is an antique 19th C tin toleware tole tray recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It is found in good used condition. But quite used, dusty losses to paint, bent edges and normal losses from over 150 years of use. There are rust spots on the reverse side. This tray approximately measures 8 1/4 x 11 3/4" Despite these losses, this is still a quite nice antique toleware tray. It is both hand stenciled and freehand painted. Very nice piece of toleware. Description: EXCEPTIONAL. Early 19th Century TIN DOCUMENT BOX, in Original condition. CHROMOLITHOGRAPHIC FLORAL DECORATION. Done in a classic TOLEWARE Style, is still 90% or better complete, better than I have ever found in this area. ALL ORIGINAL. The colors of Turquoise, Red, and Yellow, though now muted with age, are still relatively bright. Many of these old Tin boxes were faded over the years, or worn, so were then handpainted over the decoration. This one is ALL ORIGINAL, and has never been altered or painted over. Even the TRIM lines are still relatively complete. Again. There is WEAR and muting, but still very very discernible and bright, without being garish. Large-domed lid still has most of the golden TRIM around it. Even the golden DECORATION around the top handle is still nearly complete. SIZE: Approx 9 1/2" long. 8 3/4" ... morehigh. Not counting handle. 6 1/8" deep. CONDITION: Very very good. Best I have ever had. HOWEVER, the LATCH is MISSING. I can pick up by handle and it stays closed, when EMPTY. One small, 1" sep at back. Clean inside. Some AGING darkening to tin, but otherwise clean. Scratches on outside. I took lots of pictures. I am proud to offer this Beautiful Piece of Autentic, UNALTERED American heritage.
