This listing is for a 19th century. Beautiful old tin toleware box. Beautiful paint decorated front panal in orange and green and elaborate end panals with a floral decoration. A larger box, measuring 9 1/2" long x 6 1/2" high x 5 1/2" deep. Does have most paint decoration worn from top and front top edge, see pictures. A little rust to inside, mostly corners, see pictures. This is our listing containing an Early Antique Tin Tole Decorated Centerpiece- East Coast Find; very unusual form- Seems to have a sand weighted base with three wall pocket forms on the front and a trio of bud vases on the back. Also a handle at the top for either carrying or hanging- Black paint with gold trim. PR. of 19TH CENTURY GREEN PAINTED TIN TOLE DECORATED ARGAND LAMP type SCONCES
This is a wonderful and scarce Pair of 19th Century Green Painted Tin Tole Decorated Argand Lamp type Sconces. They each measure approximately 9-3/4" tall. The construction of cut and rolled edges and form matches on both examples. The hand decoration shows similar characteristics. But with subtle differences, leading us to believe they were decorated by different people in the workshop. Both show a ge appropriate wear and losses to the paint decoration. Only one retains the removable fuel tank inside the housing. The other retains only the top visible portion of the fuel tank. There are minor dents. Wear and losses as shown in the photos. The only visible markings are hand written'No 294' on the back of each. We lean towards an American origin attribution. But we leave that final determination to the buyer. Antique 19th C. Tin Toleware Match Keep with Handle
Really lovely ruby red toleware match keep or splint holder. Possibly Connecticut tinware. It has hand painted floral decoration on one side with a dark red tulip like flower and green stem flowing up one side. It also has complimentary decoration circling at the top rim and bottom and a loop handle with a hole for hanging. It may have had a lid at one time. Really nice piece with some dents and paint loss. But wear appropriate with age and use. Measures about 10" high x 2" wide.

It is approx.11" x 5" x 5" The two trays that were inside measure approx. 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches, and 4 12 x 6 1/2 inches. This is in good antique condition, some patina and rubbing of the gilding and a few lacquer flakes, but nothing not considered natural for an item of this age, the trays are in very good condition, having been wrapped in paper and stored within the canister for many years, and they would be a wonderful addition to any collection. Antique 19th C Fries Tin Grain Painted Toleware Primitive Spice Box Kitchenware
Up for auction is an antique Fries& Co tin toleware spice box recently found at auction in the Lancaster County. PA area. It is found in good used condition, but is missing one of the interior individual spice boxes, as seen best in photo#2. The exterior is grain painted in a yellow and yellow color, but quite dirty. This entire piece could benefit from a good cleaning. There are several scratches on this box, with losses to the paint on all sides. The bottom of the tin is unpainted. It has a hasp on the side. In the day, spices were valuable and locked when not being used. The top of the box has a swing handle so it can be easily carried where needed. Up for consideration is a fine pair of original black painted Tole Candle Sconces. These date mid 19th Century or earlier. They are unmarked but more than likely come from the Eastern United States Pennsylvania. They measure 10 inches by 3 3/4 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches deep. VINTAGE TEA CADDY TIN w OLD TOLE PAINTING 19th CENTURY ?? please read - antique
I am quite familiar with antiques and recognize something old but I can't claim to be an expert on tinware. For that reason I am unsure of the age of this beautiful Tea Caddy. I have included 12 photos and will do the best I can to describe the tin and you can decide or feel free to ask questions. Which I will be happy to answer. The tea caddy is 6 7/8" tall and 5' in diameter at the bottom. Please note in the last photo a shallow dent on the right side, halfway between where the painting ends and the side seam. The interior is"galvanized" I think there might be a more appropriate term- but I think galvanized will do. All the paint is faint. The sides appear to have been painted all over with a pale green very similar to olive drab. There are gold bands of approx. 3/8" at the top and bottom. In fact, the gold and ... moreperhaps the black, seem to be the only colors in the design that have held up. Apparently, one of the original colors was acidic enough that it etched into the metal precisely enough that the pattern it was applied to is still visible- now as etching rather than paint. The entire painted area is VERY faint but the word"TEA" can be made out in the center along with a few gold flowers and some geometric patterns. The etched areas are mostly leaves/vines. This leads me to believe the color that did the etching was green. The lid fits snugly but removes easily as it should and all the seems are tight. I have no doubt one could fill this with water and it would never leak. It appears there might have been paint- and perhaps a pattern- on the lid at one time but little remains. This is not a"bright" piece. I believe the first photo is a fair representation of how it would appear sitting on a shelf. It is as-found. I have done nothing to it. I've done the best I can. Black Toleware Tin Document Box made in Maine (19th Century)
Beautiful 19th century toleware deed box in rare oval shape. Original wire loop and front locking hasp. This black toleware deed box with early mustard and red paint decoration is all 100% original and untouched! This box was purchased at a Vermont antique store four years ago. It is a Maine piece of toleware done by the very famous"Stevens" family of Maine; well listed Toleware painters and tinsmiths in Maine-very well documented in the folk art and toleware books. This box is not from Pennsylvania, but is a Maine toleware piece-very rare and even harder to come by! The paint is still intact but has faded as the photos will show. No breaks or problems with this toleware deed box. One small dent on one side at bottom but hardly noticeable. Offering a gorgeous early 19th century tole painted toleware chippendale tin tray with original paint decoration. Measures a sizeable 31" long by 22 3/4" tall. Up for auction is an antique 19th C tin toleware tole tray recently found at auction in the suburban Philadelphia PA area. It is found in good used condition. But quite used, dusty losses to paint, bent edges and normal losses from over 150 years of use. There are rust spots on the reverse side. This tray approximately measures 8 1/4 x 11 3/4" Despite these losses, this is still a quite nice antique toleware tray. It is both hand stenciled and freehand painted. Very nice piece of toleware. Description: EXCEPTIONAL. Early 19th Century TIN DOCUMENT BOX, in Original condition. CHROMOLITHOGRAPHIC FLORAL DECORATION. Done in a classic TOLEWARE Style, is still 90% or better complete, better than I have ever found in this area. ALL ORIGINAL. The colors of Turquoise, Red, and Yellow, though now muted with age, are still relatively bright. Many of these old Tin boxes were faded over the years, or worn, so were then handpainted over the decoration. This one is ALL ORIGINAL, and has never been altered or painted over. Even the TRIM lines are still relatively complete. Again. There is WEAR and muting, but still very very discernible and bright, without being garish. Large-domed lid still has most of the golden TRIM around it. Even the golden DECORATION around the top handle is still nearly complete. SIZE: Approx 9 1/2" long. 8 3/4" ... morehigh. Not counting handle. 6 1/8" deep. CONDITION: Very very good. Best I have ever had. HOWEVER, the LATCH is MISSING. I can pick up by handle and it stays closed, when EMPTY. One small, 1" sep at back. Clean inside. Some AGING darkening to tin, but otherwise clean. Scratches on outside. I took lots of pictures. I am proud to offer this Beautiful Piece of Autentic, UNALTERED American heritage.
