This is a double page map Chart of the World of Mercator's Projection that measures 22 x 14.5 inches. On the back is two different pages measuring 11 x 14.5 inches. One is a map of the Western Hemisphere. And the other is View of The World From Above the North Pole. Pages are in very good condition. You are bidding on a page from a 1892 atlas. Map( page) measures about 18-1/4" x 15-1/8" There is a wide margin all the way around which will make it perfect to frame. This auction is for the Chart of Knowledge of the United States and Western Hemisphere. Copyrighted in 1931 by S.G. Bocholtz, Boston, Made in USA. This is a circular map/graphic known as the Chart of Knowledge. It measures approximately 10 and 1/8 inches in diameter. This item has two sides: one side features the United States and the other side features the Western Hemisphere. A rivet in the middle of the circle holds the three pieces of the cardboard chart together. The United States side has nice graphics. Including a dirigible, a biplane, and an ocean liner. This is an interesting piece. The arrow is meant to be turned to various states and provide social/geographic information regarding each state. Of special note: both Alaska and Hawaii were noted as territories in this 1931 map. The Western Hemisphere side also has great graphics including ... morea sailing ship flagged Santa Maria. This side is meant to provide information regarding various countries including time zone differences. Other information includes year of discovery or settlement. Population, seaports, agricultural products, discovered or settled by" info, and more. The wheel on the USA side can be turned. But only with caution and trepidation of damaging the piece. The wheel on the Western Hemisphere side is too tight and will probably break if turned. I think the cardboard that these wheels are made of expands over time. Soiling and wear are noted. Also. A tear is noted on the middle wheel between the words Georgia and Hawaii. This tear extends into the interior and cannot be seen in entirety due to the outer wheel. This remains a nice and interesting piece with wonderful graphics. Happy bidding!

This 1851 map shows the Western Hemisphere. Tallis is famous for his many illustrations surrounding his maps which make them attractive when framed. The individually drawn lines separating areas differ somewhat from map to map; notice on this one that the line dividing the U.S. and"British America" follow the 49th parallel except in the Pacific Northwest where it dips down just below Fort Vancouver(today's Vancouver. Wash. so the British can claim Puget Sound. The treaty establishing the boundary was signed in 1846 but map makers were often years behind. Mexico extends well into today's United States. South America is divided into Columbia. Guayana, Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, La Plata, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Patagonia. Russian America is labeled in today's Alaska.
