It is from Everts The Official State Atlas of Kansas(Philadelphia: L.H. Everts& Co. 1887) one of the rarer state atlases. A copy of the title page is included for authenticity. The atlas is the first to compile and show in detail the various counties, cities and towns of Kansas. The maps show much details including towns, townships, sections, quarter sections, schools, some houses and other details. On some maps there are surveryor seals, signatures and script that were printed in the plate, many of these maps were originally procured from the Kansas Survey offices and reproduced for the atlas. The maps were first printed by lithographic process and then the color washes were hand applied, often with stencil for the large fields of color. The map is not mounted, matted nor framed being sold as seen in the pics, photographed against a dark background. There are maps and town plans on both sides as seen, so if framing one would have to choose a side to frame. Overall, a very nice rare example in very good condition for its age. Size: The entire page measures 14 by 17 1/2 inches with the map image area slightly smaller as shown in the pic with a margin all around. Condition: It is in Very Good condition for its age printed on a light buff page and original handcoloring as issued. It is basically as seen in the pics. Other than some light wear around the edges. Vintage 1940s or 1950s Road Atlas with Town Plans Here we have for auction an interesting snapshot of 1940s or early 1950s Britain. In the form of this faux leather bound Road Atlas, prior to any motorways being built, detailing routes to and from major destination along with mileages, and town plans for the UK's major towns and cities. The first motorway was built to by pass Preston in 1958. And there is no hint of it, so although I cannot find any reference to a date within the atlas, it certainly predates 1958. The Atlas is in good condition for its age- it was one of those inexpensive items that was meant to have been thrown away, so for it to survive is unusual, but gives us an excellent snapshot of what Britain was like to drive around over 60 years ago. No M25, or M1, M6 etc- the main route from London to Manchester takes in the ... moreRoman Watling Street, Fosse Way and across the A6, taking in St Albans, Fenny Stratford, Market Harborough, Leicester, Derby, Buxton and Stockport en route- interestingly, a shorter route than now, but would have taken at least two or three times as long! This is an early 1876 map of the town plans of Corydon. Leavenworth, Jasper, Rockport& Everton, In. Very detailed. Measures. 14.5 X 17.25 inches. We have shown the scans of the map and a close ups to get a great idea of the beauty and workmanship that went into the detailed engraving along with the hand coloring not found on modern maps. All customers will get a standard sized paper printout of the dated cover(scan above) Which will serve as proof for insurance purposes of the holding. Overall in very nice shape, some minor wear here and there but in general a great piece of WWII memorabilia. I have not found a similar item for sale.
