A nice impression of an interesting antique map. Any minor defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. Sheet measures c. 11 1/2" W x 14 3/4" H. Antique Stieler's Hand Atlas map of the South Pole dated 1869 and published in the 1871 Hand Atlas. Other than a small water stain at the bottom center edge of border and minor discoloration around border the map is in good condition with no tears. Holes, stains, marks, or other defects. Measurements are 16" x 13 1/2" excluding border. Total size is 18" x 15 1/2" This map is hand painted and provides detailed information on items like exploration routes from cook in 1772 to moore in 1845, ice packs, icebergs, sea lanes, etc. A lot of info on this map can be found if Stieler's Hand Atlas No. 42a is entered into a search bar.
