The map is drawn on a scale of three inches to one mile. And area labeled Parma, astride a tributary of Big Creek, is today's Parma Heights. The guide gives a description of each state including a population table for its main towns- and condensed information for Nebraska and Minnesota Territories. There follows tables of stage. Canal, and railroad routes arranged by State; a table of distances between main towns on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, and the same for smaller rivers(Wabash, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, etc. CONDITION: Fair to Good. Boards bowed and lightly worn. Chip to bottom spine. Text guide is loose and laid in, but all leaves of it are securely bound together. Map( page) measures about 18-1/4" x 15-1/8" There is a wide margin all the way around which will make it perfect to frame. This 1851 map shows the Western Hemisphere. Tallis is famous for his many illustrations surrounding his maps which make them attractive when framed. The individually drawn lines separating areas differ somewhat from map to map; notice on this one that the line dividing the U.S. and"British America" follow the 49th parallel except in the Pacific Northwest where it dips down just below Fort Vancouver(today's Vancouver. Wash. so the British can claim Puget Sound. The treaty establishing the boundary was signed in 1846 but map makers were often years behind. Mexico extends well into today's United States.
