Up for auction is a rare government work. The SECOND ANNUAL REPORT OF THE BUREAU OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY for the YEAR 1885. Published in Washington by the Government Printing Office in 1886. A comprehensive 662-page book containing detailed reports from several sectors of the country, including On the Cattle Trade and Dairy Interests of Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, On the Condition of the Live-Stock Industry West of the Mississippi, and much more. The book contains eleven full-page color plates. Mainly depicting laboratory slide images of various diseases, but the main attraction of the book is a foldout 21 x 31.5cm map depicting the extent of Southern Cattle Fever throughout the Southwest, with most of the map being occupied by an early map of Texas. Red lines on the map depict the extent of the disease. Most Texas counties, ... moreexcept for those in the extreme southern part of the state, are depicted, as well as the entirety of Arkansas. An English journal, were informed in June 1868 that a very subtle and terribly fatal disease had broken out among cattle in Illinois. The disease killed quickly and was reported to be fatal in every instance. The disease was very nearly as fatal as the Veterinarian claimed. As far as I can see only pages 1- 5 of the Directory are missing. And certainly all the plates are there. Each plate fills a double sheet, the other sides being blank except for the title. In other words, each plate(and they are all loose) stands on its own. They are very attractive, with early colour printing, and as well as the street plans, there are interesting maps such as a Geological map, a Railway map, a lovely birds-eye view of the City, a plan of Kew Gardens and the Zoo, etc. Condition: This attractive Atlas is completely ... moredisbound. Front and back(leather) boards loose, and spine missing. Endpapers present, so too the title page and 2 plans(St Pauls and Westminster Abbey) Pages 1- 5 of the London Directory appear to be missing, otherwise I think it is complete. Certainly the attractive street maps, 1- 65(in fact 67 plates in all including 57a and the Index map) are all present. The maps are all in a clean condition, though map 24(the City) has split down the middle. So although in poor condition as a whole. This is an Atlas well worth saving in some form or other. Kawamura Glass 5 World Map Plates/Bowls Cased Japan Made
5 plates/ bowls(they've got a slightly raised center. Maybe half an inch) that are 5.25" square and 7.5" if measured along the diagonal. The map on the dish isn't quite to scale but fits quite a bit into its illustration, and except for the continent names(no Antarctica) everything is in Japanese. For most of the world that means Katakana, except a few locations close to home that are in Kanji. The plates come crammed into that handled container and fit snugly within. A Sunrix Gift collection paper is inside. But seems to have nothing to do with the contents. All items look great.

These were a six plate set that was tipped into the book and each plate measures 10.25" x 7" not including the borders and are blank on the back.
