It was published in New York by Sheldon& Company of 677 Broadway in 1856. More about the Map: Printed by the lithographers Henry Seibert& Bros. Ledger Building- corner of William& Spruce Street- New York. What the Map Shows: the Mediterranean and the Adriatic Seas; current day Macedonia. And Messina. It shows the Roman Latin names of the cities as well as the rivers and mountain ranges. It shows the cities of Troy, Athens and Olympia. Condition: The map has light browning along the edges and a crease in the middle where it was part of a book. There is a light water mark at the right edge. Above and below the center fold. It is approximately 5" in length. Mild foxing and yellowing overall. Upon closer inspection we noticed that some of the cities have a slight line drawn under the city name. Working in his official capacity. Bonne compiled some of the most detailed and accurate maps of the period. Bonne’s work represents an important step in the evolution of the cartographic ideology away from the decorative work of the 17th and early 18th century towards a more detail oriented and practical aesthetic. With regard to the rendering of terrain Bonne maps bear many stylistic similarities to those of his predecessor, Bellin.
