Working in his official capacity. Bonne compiled some of the most detailed and accurate maps of the period. Bonne’s work represents an important step in the evolution of the cartographic ideology away from the decorative work of the 17th and early 18th century towards a more detail oriented and practical aesthetic. With regard to the rendering of terrain Bonne maps bear many stylistic similarities to those of his predecessor, Bellin. This large map comes from the second Swedish edition of the Andrees Stora Handatlas. Published around 1898. An exceptionally attractive and detailed map the sheet measures approx 57x44.5cm with a vertical centrefold as issued. Lovely crisp paper. On the verso some information relating to the map. Good condition; very clean and bright. Some soft creasing. There is dust soiling on the verso that has a minor impact on the margins outside the image; toning also in margins. On the verso the dust soiling already mentioned and there is a thin remnant of what was the adjoining page along the centrefold. I’ll post the map rolled in a wide-diameter posting tube.
