March, 1911, No.3 is was published information for public improvements in the city of Philadelphia. Sort of a Master Plan. It shows some grandiose plans for making a Rome-like city with large buildings and amphitheaters, most never materialized probably ran out of money, and the coming of the Great War(my guess) It is well illustrated and discriptive publication under Mayor John E Reyburn, 1907-1911. The cover and back pages are completely seperated and some separation at the staples has occurred. Except for those, the quality is good. This is an early 1876 Railroad& City plan map of the cities of Newport. Ridgeville, Farmland, Milton, Hagerstown and Cambridge City, Indiana. Very detailed. The whole page measures. 14.5 X 17.25 inches. Shows the railroads which helped build this area. We have shown the scans of the map and a close ups to get a great idea of the beauty and workmanship that went into the detailed engraving along with the hand coloring not found on modern maps. The map shows various planned and ongoing changes to the road and building layout of the City of London. Noteably. It shows 1) the proposed construction of Queen Victoria ... moreStreet which was eventually commissioned in 1861 to streamline the approach to the central banking district. 2) The construction of Farringdon Road(named on the map as Victoria Street) which took almost 20 years between the 1840s and the 1860s, and which is considered one of the greatest urban engineering achievements of the 19th century. Not only was it one of the first engineered multi-lane roads, but it also buried the River Fleet in a system of underground tunnels, solving one of London's most daunting sanitary problems. Its construction also included the building of the world's first stretch of underground railway, part of the Metropolitan Railway running beneath Farringdon Road from King's Cross St. Pancras into the City at Farringdon station. 3) Changes to the layout of Smithfield. The map does not indicate the construction of Holborn Viaduct, built between 1863 and 1869, which was the first flyover in central London. Up for sale is a Lot of 13+ Old Vintage Traffic Highway Railway Railroad City Plans& Specs. I purchased quite a few boxes of various reflectors and signs from an estate of a guy who worked as a AGA(American Gas Accumulator Co) salesman. Then Signal Service Corp, which was the company that took over the traffic line from AGA(1930's, 1940's) His catalog says that the items are traffic and railroad reflectors/ signs. This guy worked there in the 1930's- ... more50's which is my only way of dating these. This lot includes a little over 13 various size(mostly the large roll-up type) plans& specifications regarding traffic highway railroad signs& markers. They are all in various. But very worn condition. Some are very thin(almost see through paper) some are on dark blue paper. They have rips, folds, discoloration, staining, folds, tears etc. Some items included appear to be sign specifications; others are city road maps with traffic marker indications on them. Other plans are handwritten and I'm not exactly sure what they are. A few of the plans are for cities in Virginia(Danville& Salem) and are dated in the 1920's& 1930's. They have an old musty odor. Please use zoom function to see details on all photos. These plans will be packed/ shipped in the rolled up/ folded fashion that I obtained them in. Please ask any and all questions.
