For your consideration is a set of carved wooden ethnic figures framed in a shadowbox lined with basket weaving. These are high quality pieces each weighing well over 2 pounds. They are quite unique- not something you would find often. They are framed in a dark frame that is black but with hues of dark brown- similar to an expresso color. The glass is very clear. The basket weaving is on the back and sides of the frame. The figures are about 8 inches tall and reflect a man and a woman. The shadowbox itself measures 12 inches x 8 1/2 inches. It is just under 2 1/2 inches deep. There are two hooks on the back for safe hanging. The shadow box is solid wood on the back as well. Thanks for looking! This listing is for what looks and feels like a hand carved wooden head necklace that I found at an estate sale. It doesn't feel like metal or plastic. It looks like an African person's head. If it is wood it is a very hard wood and it is either dark in color or the head has been stained dark. The head is 2 1/4" tall not including the hoop in the top of the head to hold the cord that goes around the neck. The necklace is about 29" around. Or laying flat and pulled out straight it is 14 1/2" long. The cord has a little bit of stretch to it too. It would make a great addition to any black art jewelry collection. Good luck. Antique Carved Folk Art Figure of an African American Stump Speaker 18th-19th C.
This is an unusual and quite insulting carved figure of an African American gentleman. He is dressed in 18th or early 19th century costume. With knee breeches, fancy waistcoat, and long coat. He is standing on what appears to be a tree stump, which makes me feel he is a caricture of an black politician or preacher. He stands 4 1/4 inches high and is carved from a single piece of wood. On the base are two sets of inscriptions. One set is initials in pencil and the second is a series of numbers in ink, which look like museum accession numbers.

Island Woman Head Art Sculpture This is a very nice piece although it does looks like it has a crack/imperfection in the wood at base and going up to the neck area. But it does not appear to go all the way through, still a very solid piece. Please view all 9 photos of this lovely piece as it adds to the description. This is a lovely unique piece. It could almost be a stand, but the top doesn't sit level, it's sloped at a bit of an angle. This measures 17 inches tall and about 6 1/2 inches in diameter. This is very heavy and weighs 8 lbs before any packaging. I'm not sure the ethnicity of this. If anyone has any idea or information please feel free to contact me.

AFRICAN? KAYAN? WOOD CARVED STATUES, 2 OLD LG. WOOD FOLK ART CARVINGS, DECO
Tribal? African? Kayan people? Definitely old. These seem to be old but I do not know the age. There is metal used for their jewelry and it has tarnished with time but it is still there. There are metal pins or nail like things that not only hold the jewelry in place but they also have them as a decoration on their forehead. These are a metal and have rusted with time. There is metal wire used as the earrings. There is also a metal wiring used around the necks as a necklace. There is age related wear with some dings. Loss of paint here and there. I will not retouch these. The way I found them is the way you will receive them. I could use a black marker over the dings. Etc. but I think that would be deceiving the buyer. Like I said you will get these wonderful pieces the same way I found them. The most I did was to take a damp cloth over them ... moreto get some of the dust off. Please look at all pictures. They measure about 2' tall but seem much larger. Kept together for years. Bought together, selling together. I will not separate them so please do not ask. Hand carved Wooden Figure of Man- Folk Art. Possibly African Art Statue Description: Wooden hand-carved figure of a boy or a man. The associated wood base upon which the figure stands has indentations perfectly carved out for where the feet can rest. The figure is held up by a metal rod that inserts in the back of the figure and connects into a hole on the stand. The figure can stand on its own. But it is not completely stable based on the height and the center of gravity. The dimensions are 9.5" tall x 2" wide. The left foot of the statue was previous broken and repaired with some wood glue a while back. I have no idea where this piece originated from, but it is possibly that this is an example of African folk art. I would love to get more information on it if anyone knows.
