Up for bids is this Large Antique Late 19thC German Black Forest Carved Wooden Bear Statue. This Black Forest bear was carved in Germany during the late 19thC. The bear is finely carved from wood and has a polychrome painted mouth with glass eyes. The bear is standing upright and is growling with his paws up. This piece would originally have been on a piece of furniture such as a hall tree but the dowel could be removed and it should be attached to a base because it does not stand freely. This piece stands 10 3/4" in height. 4 3/4" in width, and is 5 3/4" in depth. This piece is in great condition with just a small piece missing to one of the bears paws. Up for auction is One Unique Vintage German Black Forest Style Carved Wooden Bear Rocking Horse. This Rocking Bear is a doll size rocker. It measures 12" tall to the top of the saddle. The overall length is about 23" and the width is 8" wide. It has a primitive German style painting on the saddle and glass eyes. This Bear is definitely hand carved and hand painted wood. I have seen this bear one other time and the carving of that one was slightly different, making it one of a kind. All that said, I have no idea exactly where this bear is from. It could be German, Scandinavian, or from some other eastern European country. Condition is excellent. All nails are tight, all the body parts are nice and tight, and all slats in the rocker are tight. This would be a great addition to any doll or miniature collection or bear collection.

It well carved with what I believe are glass eyes. It has some unfamiliar etchings on the sides of the base. Indian or Eskimo? This would be a very unusual piece for any bear or clothing collector.
