And relief carving on both sides. One side has a single, large, momma rhinoceros with a tree background. Opposite side has twin baby rhinos and trees. Has a 12 inch diameter, and is about half an inch thick. It weighs just a little over two pounds. This piece looks to be completely hand tooled. Carved from a heavy hard wood. The smooth areas are not completely flat, but have slight rises and dips in the wood. The side with the large rhino has a couple cracks in the wood. Also on this side. The wood has areas of lighter color, as if faded from use, but I have no idea what the intended use is, or was. Maybe purely decorative, or possibly a tray. The opposite ... moreside with 2 little rhinos and tree figures has about a one-inch area where there is a reddish color down in the wood grain- I'm not sure if that's natural. Or a defect. As is to be expected, there are occasional artist glitches. This is a nice. Unusual piece. Overall, very good condition. It's a neat find. The back panel is actually made from three boards and the horse& rider were carved separately and then applied. You can see on the right hand edge that part of the horse's hoof is missing. There also is tip of a leaf missing from the bottom. There is one more problem that I will try to explain; two of the backboards are no longer held together. The carving itself is actually holding the two pieces together. This in no way effects displaying or use of this antique hand carved plaque. Aside from some assorted rubs and light scratches. The rest of this hand carved Roman solider and horse is perfect with no restorations. As the title indicates. This is a heavy, neat old organ or piano top with its original music book holder. It's ready for a"new life" or a piano/organ searching for a panel. As above mentioned, this has several mends, some of which could have been done with a little more skill so the new owner may want to sand to refine the finished look or soften the glue and then re-glue. The round sculpted/scalloped music holder has a tray just below it which has a mend on each side, the forefront of the piece also has two mends(this is a piece which is set/attached to the main body of the piece) and can be removed as it is attached with tiny nails which look as if they will be easily removed. 17th/18th CENTURY CARVED WOOD ARCHITECTURAL PANEL w GOLD LEAF& PAINT DECORATION This small panel measures 6 1/4 by 7 1/2 by 1 3/4 inches and is carved out of one piece of wood. Beautiful deep carving with original gold leaf and paint decoration. The carving may be a Coat of Arms. It shows small holes from a wood boring beetle but they are long gone and there is no active insect remaining. I think this piece is French judging by the type of carving and was probably incorporated originally in some larger architectural feature. CONDITION: Fair to good. There are small pin holes all over from insects but there is no sign they are still active. One corner has some damage. The piece is solid though with no sign of further damage.
