ANTIQUE MINIATURE CORK WOOD MALLARD DUCK DECOY GLASS EYES ORIGINAL PRIMITIVE
Up for your consideration is a fantastic quality Antique(probably 19thC or early 20thC) Hand Carved Wooden Miniature Duck Decoy. This amazing duck decoy was acquired several years ago along with 15 others from a longtime collector estate. I believe the wood is Balsa or cork as it is lightweight. But hard. There are no signatures, but is very well made and has nice detail. The paint looks like it is original and he has a green head, a white ringed neck, a grey bottom, a black and green beak and red breast. There is a tiny amount of black paint on the tail. A lot of paint has worn. The Antique Carved Wooden Duck Decoy is smaller than most with the body only measuring approx. 6 inches long, 2 3/4 inches wide and body only is 2 inches tall. The head was originally probably glued to the body, but now comes apart, but remains intact. There are ... moreno major chips, cracks or repairs. I believe the duck is a Mallard having a green colored head. The eyes are made out of an amber color with black centers. One eye is smaller than the other and I don't know if this is original or a replacement. If replaced it was probably a long time ago. Both eyes have small scratches. The duck shows some amazing craftsmanship with feathers, shape and design. Probably from the Midwest or East Coast. THE GENTLEMAN AT THE ESTATE SALE THIS CAME FROM SAID HE'S HAD THIS SINCE HE WAS A KID WHEN HIS FATHER AND HIM USED TO DUCK HUNT ON THE RIVER HE'S STILL LIVING ON. IT MEASURES ABOUT 15" LONG FROM TIP OF HIS BEAK TO THE TAIL END. IT'S 8" TO THE TOP OF HIS HEAD AND 5" ACROSS THE BOTTOM. IT ACTUALLY STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL PAINT ON IT. ALTHOUGH THERE IS SOME PAINT LOSS I BELIEVE IT JUST ADDS TO THE WONDERFUL PATINA OF THE PIECE. THERE'S EVEN SOME ORIGINAL PAINT STILL ON THE SIDES OF THE DUCK FOR THE WINGS. It has it's original paint. I don't see a name on it but there is what looks like a lead weight recessed into the wood on the bottom and the weight has some letters on it. Yellow painted bill. Wood is old, aged and shows it. I believe it has tack eyes but not sure. Head/neck is square or rectangular where it is attached. Not sure what kind of duck; maybe a mallard. It measures about 16" long by around 5 1/4" wide by 7" tall. Weight is 2 lb. 12.9 oz. This is a very nice wooden mallard carved from a very nice cut of wood. I am not sure of the type of wood that was used. This appears to be fairly old. I am not an expert. So I will not venture a guess other than it is vintage. The length of this is approximately 16 inches from tip of beak to end of tail. It's upper body is approximately 6 inches wide at it's widest points. It is about 7 1/2 inches from the base to the top of of the head. This is a finely crafted duck. It has some very minor nicks and bumps here and there. Otherwise. It is in very good-excellent condition. This is a stunning antique late 19th century hand carved wood usable canvasback drake duck decoy sculpture. it was a decoy that was used and once had a lead weight mounted to the bottom. it is a rare piece that would have been pulled by the neck and still has some lacquered wired still wrapped around his. it has its original paint job and is a nice design. he has a flat bottom with beautifully inlaid yellow and black glass eyes. the decoy is a life-size and measures 13 3/4 inches long by 6 1/2 inches tall by 5 inches wide. it is in nice antique condition. Robertson hand carved wooden bluebill hen duck decoy sculpture. it was done in blue hill Miane and was once a usable decoy. it is carved with great stylized detailing. Antique Painted Duck Decoy Very nice Carved. Painted Duck Decoy, originally purchased from decoy collector on the Outer Banks. Very well done, with great original painted detail and his head turned to the side. I think this is a canvas back duck but I am not sure. Very good antique/primitive condition with some paint loss and wear as you would expect with age and a small circular age defect in the wood on the back. The decoy has a flat piece of metal nailed to the bottom and a nail in the front, I would assume to tie a lead to so he doesn't float away. Old Duck Decoy is 10.5" long and just under 4" tall.
