This listing is for what looks and feels like a hand carved wooden head necklace that I found at an estate sale. It doesn't feel like metal or plastic. It looks like an African person's head. If it is wood it is a very hard wood and it is either dark in color or the head has been stained dark. The head is 2 1/4" tall not including the hoop in the top of the head to hold the cord that goes around the neck. The necklace is about 29" around. Or laying flat and pulled out straight it is 14 1/2" long. The cord has a little bit of stretch to it too. It would make a great addition to any black art jewelry collection. Good luck. Antique carved wood American Art Architectural Salvage Figure, Man, Furniture
A nice piece of architectural salvage carved out of wood ~ figure of a man. A duke, a musketeer? It probably came off of a mantel or large piece of furniture. He is old and somewhat fragile. There has been some repair work on his neck where he has cracked up the sides. There is a small brad in his neck and on the top where a piece was loose. The base has some cracks in it and a few loose pieces which may need gluing. There is a hole in the back of his head where he was mounted at one time. He is still an amazing piece of history and you will love him! Check out photos for further idea on condition and detail. Up for auction. Dear Customers: This hand carved wood figurine of a mother carrying her child on her back. The carved faces are interesting. It reminds me of some Mayan art that I have seen. And I have seen some Mexican art this year that was reminiscent of the faces on this figurine. There are no markings indicating country of origin. This was carved from one piece of a heavy. Hard wood. There is a split in the base that looks like it has been repaired. It makes the figurine a bit wobbly when standing. There is also a very fine hairline crack going half way up the back of the dress of the mother that is in line with the split on the base. Antique American Folk Art Carved & Painted Birds In Nest Wood Carving
Up for bids is this Antique American Folk Art Carved& Painted Birds In Nest Wood Carving. This piece was most likely carved in Pennsylvania in the mid 20thC but could be a little earlier. The carving depicts three baby birds and their mother that are sitting on the edge of their nest. The baby birds eyes look to be nails and the mother bird's eyes look like tacks. They are attached to the nest with thick wire legs. The birds are wood and nest are wood but the nest has composition covering it to give it a more realistic look. All of the paint on this piece is original. There are no breaks or repairs to this piece but I do believe that 2 baby birds were either never added or they are missing. This piece measures 8 1/2" in length. 4" in depth, and 5 1/4" in height. Folk art made from old fence posts. Made into a American flag with 13 stars. 12 stars. I am not sure what state or meaning that gives the flag. I don't know the age of it. But I got it from a storage locker about a year ago with a lot of other antiques from between 1800 and 1940, so I would guess somewhere in that range. It has been in my office for a year now. And it needs to go to a collector or a new home that wants to display it. I don't know who made it. It shows signs of age and use. As must be expected. I guess it is made somewhere between 1850 and 1940. But I am not sure, can be older. I don't know if it has been repaired at some point. But it might have. The size is 32.5 X 18 inches. ANTIQUE CARVED& GILDED AMERICAN EAGLE" cellpadding="10" This fine carving of an American Spread Eagle is distinctive in that it is almost a reverse image of the ubiquitous eagles by John Bellamy and copied by the Artistic Carving Co. It is refreshing to find a fine carving that is very much the work of a skilled artisan whose attention to detail is exceptional. And does not appear to be the work of John Bellamy or the Artistic Carving Co. of Boston. In the same context t he shield of the United States is shown on the viewer's left. Rather than the more prevalent right with three arrows clutched in his left talon. There is only one star showing in the upper left of the shield, the others covered by feathers and the talon holding it. The eagle has a rather fierce expression and the manner in which the shield and arrows ... moreare gripped is protective. The feathers are carefully detailed and incised. There is a hole drilled through them on both sides for mounting in addition to the eyes and wire. An old auction label is at the center top of the back. CONDITION: Much of the paint has weathered with a significant loss showing that it was displayed outside for many years. Perhaps on a boat. The original gilding on the entire eagle and much of the underlying gesso was lost over time and gold paint was later used that also had mostly worn away. The entire upper section was re gilded and glazed sometime ago. Fierce expression of protectionism grasping American shield& arrows HERITAGE: This type of carving was done by sailors. And craftsman such as Bellamy and were an expression of the patriotic feeling in the country during the mid 19th Century. The eagle in this form was frequently used as decoration on the transom of American sailing ships. The proportions of the relic and measurements are realistic. And the detailing is precise. It was discovered in Maine and mounted in an old sailor made fancy marlin work picture frame for display. Eagle head Relic framed: 14 3/4” L x 12 1/2” H x 1 3/4” D Weight 3 lbs 9 oz Eagle Head 7" L x 4" H x 3 1/4" D Presented is a carved wood. Very old, American eagle head with superbly incised detailing of its features. It dates back many years, and was assuredly done by a master carver who was active in the 1850's and specialized in ship carvings. The head curves sharply to the left, the viewer's right, which is indicative ... moreof eagles that were to be mounted as a stern board or on a plaque. The brow has the fierce look that is common to eagle heads of a patriotic nature. And the feathers are individually chiseled which is unique to this unnamed carver. Since eagle carvers rarely if ever signed their works, there is no way to attribute who might be the artist, except by matching the technique. As unique and stylized as it is, we have been unable to find a closer match then the stern board eagle in the Mallory Building at the Mystic Seaport. Both heads have the characteristic pose with the open vertically curved beak, extended tongue and fierce eyebrows. It is displayed high on the west wall of the Mallory Building. As displayed, it makes a fine example of American nautical folk art as does this eagle head relic. In smaller sizes. Patriotic wood carvings of American eagles were very popular in mid 19th Century New England homes, and these are the most numerous of the examples in today's market. Lg. Antique American Wood Carving Eagle w/Shield off top of Furniture NR
Antique wood carving from the top of a piece of furniture depicting an eagle holding a shield. It's very nicely carved and I'm not sure if it's walnut or mahogany, it measures about 25in. wide by about 10 1/2in. from the bottom to the top of the eagles head, it's about 1 1/2in. thick, it looks to be in good condition the finish looks original, there is some glueing on the back it looks like the eagle had been partially broken off at one time and glued back, it's a good job and hard to see but there is nothing missing, if you need a nice old topping for a piece of furniture or just something to hang on the wall it's a nice one and is guaranteed old.

Antique? Large African? Asian? American? hand carved wood conga drum skin top
Not sure of age. But appears very old. Large hand carved wood drum with animal skin top. Great looking piece with alot of detail in carving. Drum itself is in solid condition with only a few light scuffs and nicks around. Ropes holding drum cover are loose, as is the animal skin cover. I see one hole in the cover, so not sure if it would play with the ropes tightened. Tough too tell origin, but perhaps someone could shed some light on this piece for me. Measures 33 3/4 inches long, 5 1/2 inches wide at the base, 11 1/2 inches wide at the top. Measurements are a little off considering the drum is not a round, being carved out of a log. Here is a really old nutcracker. I think he is a Fisherman(i got another fisherman figure from the same lady. He is 9 inches tall and hand carved. He has a nice hat. Mustache and beard, coat with lapel and buttons. Nice touches. There is a metal pin at the joint. He is very cool. The only real damage i see is the chip at the bottom back handle.

Here is an absolutely exquisite hand carved(from one solid piece of wood) American Bald Eagle. It looks purched and ready to take flight. The detail in the carving of this magnificent eagle is absolutely beautiful. From the talons gripping the base to the tips of the feathered wings. Unfortunately, there is no signature on this piece, but it was no doubt carved by a true artist. The glass eyes are embeded and look quite real, with a shade difference in color. That difference does not take away from the overall beauty. This piece stands approx. 1 foot in height with a wing span of about 8 inches. VINTAGE AMERICAN HAND CARVED WOOD FOLK ART BIRD ~ 25 ½”
We purchased this wonderful large hand carved folk art bird about 12-15 years ago from an older gentleman who had been storing it in his garage since the 1950’s. He had owned the carving long enough he couldn’t remember where or when he originally acquired it. We do not know exactly when this item was created. It looks 19th century to us. It stands approximately 25 ½” in height. Viewed from the front it is 9 ¾” deep and is 5 ¼” across the front of the base. It weighs approximately 11 lbs. The bird is not marked as to who made it which is no surprise as older pieces seldom are. We photographed it outside in natural light and the wood is a little less red than the photos indicate. There is some discussion in our household as to whether this is a young wild turkey or perhaps a pullet or young female chicken. We are inclined to ... morethink the latter due to the comb. The bird is carved entirely from a single piece of wood the variety of which we’ve been unable to ascertain. It doesn’t appear to be pine. It may be some kind of oak; however. We’re just not sure what kind of wood it is. The bird is in overall good original condition for a hand carved wooden piece with age. It is not perfect. We think that it was originally stained or varnished. There is no evidence that it was ever colored or painted. There is chipping to the bottom of the base at the foot. However. Since the piece is chip carved, it is difficult to say if this occurred during the carving or at a later date. There is a dehydration crack on one side of the base. This is to be expected in any older carved wooden piece. It is caused by the wood shrinking across the grain over time and is something you look for as a sign of age. It becomes part of the item’s bona fides. There is also what appears to be a chip to the middle toe nail on the forward foot of the bird. Up for your consideration is this extremely unique and captivating carved and whittled wooden figure of a man(or woman? in a rocking chair. The figure itself its made of carved sections of wood each joined by a small nail and some type of now yellowed glue. The wood itself does show signs of age and oxidation. The torso and head are one singular piece of carved wood. With carved detail of a lapel, suit and buttons under the hand knitted wool sweater that fits snugly on top. DESCRIPTION: Pair of antique(ca. about 1900- 1925. Possibly older) Mary and Joseph Santos figures with glass eyes. VERY large pieces at about 21" tall each. The robes are some type of papier mache(or similar material) and the heads, hands, feet, bodies underneath the robes, and bases are wood and please see pics. Latin American, probably Mexico or Central America. Please note these figures have been*re-painted* and please see Condition Report below. The Santos figures themselves are very early 20th century or older, but the paint is*not* original and probably only about 40- 60 years old. Here is a really cool ANTIQUE OR VINTAGE hand carved wood ladle or hanging planter. I don't know which) It depicts two woman which appear to be from the Amazon/ South American Indian descent. The handle has hand carved figures of an indigenous woman squatting while the rest of the upper handle forms her long hair. This Hand Carved Wood Ladle measure approximately 20" high x 4.5" wide x 6" deep. The face and figure is in excellent condition. It has a beautiful patina on it. It look to be made of teak wood. This unique figure are easily hung on the wall. The inside of the ladle is curved but you could possibly fit a small glass votive candle in it.
