Vintage Folk Art Wood Carving Sow Pig Hog Native Black Walnut Tree Wire Tail
This very adorable little wood carving of a hog—obviously a sow—is carved of a tree native to the Midwest—the American Black Walnut. The artist signed the underside of the sow with Shorty 74. The carving is very well done and anatomically correct for a sow. With the ears of a Yorkshire hog, and a curly wire tail. It is in excellent vintage condition and measures 3” long, 1 ½” high, and 1” wide Please keep in mind this is not a new item. I try to describe items as accurately as possible. But cannot always detail each flaw. Crazing and manufacturing flaws such as pin heads, color variations, straw marks, bubbles, inclusions, and other manufacturing anomalies are considered normal for glass, china, and pottery of age. Pair Gorgeous~Solid Handcarved Wood Finials 10" & 101/2" Tall Walnut?
I don't know much about this pair of Large Wood Finials. Found them at an Estate Sale and thought they were cool. I believe they are handcarved. Solid wood, but am not sure of what type. I was never good at identify trees once they were cut down. One of them has a drilled hole in the bottom. But the other one doesn't. One is 10" Tall and one is 10 1/2" Tall. Definitely handmade. Antique Carved Walnut Wood Panel Architectural Salvage Organ Piano Music Holder
As the title indicates. This is a heavy, neat old organ or piano top with its original music book holder. It's ready for a"new life" or a piano/organ searching for a panel. Please review all the photos. As above mentioned, this has several mends, some of which could have been done with a little more skill so the new owner may want to sand to refine the finished look or soften the glue and then re-glue. The round sculpted/scalloped music holder has a tray just below it which has a mend on each side, the forefront of the piece also has two mends(this is a piece which is set/attached to the main body of the piece) and can be removed as it is attached with tiny nails which look as if they will be easily removed. There is a separation at one end as shown but nothing too significant. part of its"character. This is certainly more ... morebeautiful than the photos reflect. The walnut is rich, dark and the patina is inviting. It measures about 44" wide and 16-3/8" from front to back and about 14" high to the top of the knob/finial. This is a quite stunning wooden walnut carved corbel with the head of a horse of which: During our research we have been informed it certainly dates from the mid period of the 19th century. Dates about c1860. Of a Black Forest origin. Walnut. Superb intricate carving of the horses head. Facing to the left. Intricate carving of the head of the horse with the mane. It has an overall size of about 5.5 x 4.5inches. Max depth when laid flat of about 2.25inches. When mounted with the flat area to the wall of about 3inches. Condition: Considering the age. Vintage Retro Walnut and Maple Late 1950's- Early 1960's Wood Carved Bird Sculpture/Signed and Numbered Description: You are viewing a true piece of art. The base of this wood sculpture is carved from walnut and the birds are carved from maple both of wihich have been stained to retain the beauty of the wood. The woman whom I purchased the piece from said it was carved in the late 1950's or early 1960's. She could not remember it's exact origin. That was all she could tell me. I took it to a wood worker that verified that it was truly walnut and maple. The piece is signed. Although, I do not know anything about the artist that carved it. The base is signed as walnut and is numbered. The sleakness of the birds is truly beautiful. They remind you of seagulls in flight. Stunning artistic circular wood piece from antique organ top, walnut? repurpose
I have struggled with words to describe this piece. I know it came from a panel on the front side of an old(probably pump) organ as I sold the large panel but not the three panels. The two outer panels are rather square and I have them at Gatherings in Anamosa. Iowa. I really took a liking to this circular center panel and decided to see if anyone else finds it as attractive as I do. It is 13" in diameter. More description coming.
