Antique Black Forest Style Hand Carved Wall Shelf
I am breaking up my collection of hand carved wall shelves. Moved into smaller place and don't have room. I have collected these over the years at Estate Sales. Ebay purchases, antique auctions, etc. I do not know the origin, but suspect it was carved in Switzerland or Germany around the turn of the century. It is in good condition and has only one small chip on the top of the shelf against the wall, so it is not seen. Dimensions: shelf 12" x 7" and height is 12" Carving of the bird and branches is in great detail. A real work of art that you don't see anymore. To reduce risk of breakage in shipment, I will detach the shelf(three screws) from the body of the shelf.

Antique Black Forest Style Hand Carved Wood Wall Shelf
I must thin my collection of carved wall shelves because I moved into a small place. I collected them from Estate sales. Ebay, Antique auctions. I cannot give the exact history of this item. It was likely carved in Switzerland where these are known to originate. Dimensions are shelf: 6 1/2" x 10" height is 11 inches. Other than the broken fragment shown in the picture, it is in very good condition. You will see the piece and where it goes. Vintage Federal American War Eagle Wall Shelf
As far as I could find out. This is an early Federal American War eagle wall shelf. The eagle is in perfect condition and has its original paint of antique bronze or gilt. The eagle is holding arrows in his talons. Hence the term"war" eagle.The black shelf measures10 1/2" long by 4 1/2"wide. The eagle is 4 3/4" tall and a wing span of 9 1/2" It looks like the tips of the wings were glued to the shelf but are now loose. A single nail holds the eagle to the shelf. Would love more info on this piece and hope I'm not selling it too cheaply.

The eagle is either carved wood or more probably Syroco wood(a process developed by the Syracuse Ornamental Co) using molded wood pulp to resemble carving. There are no markings to identify it. But I believe it is probably Syroco. The shelf measures 10 1/2" X 4 1/2" and has a groove for a plate display and 2 brass eye hooks for nailing to the wall. The eagle is secured by 1 nail in the breast and the wing tips are glued. From the tail to the top of the shelf is 5 1/2" The eagle appears to be in excellent condition. This is an exceptional antique European MASTER CARVING. This ONE-OF-A-KIND European carving consists of a beautifully rendered DRAGON guarding a well designed and constructed wall shelf- all carved and constructed of SOLID OAK. This carving is simply wonderful! From the tip of his lovely raptor's beak to the end of his bushy lion's tail. This fantastic carving is absolutely museum quality. His beautiful face, delicate neck and tail, well defined ram-style horns, spiny backbone, ribs, and toes are all evidence of a true MASTER'S hand. Any treasure will be safe and sound sitting atop this handsome creature. The upright frame mounts securely to the wall with screws. Which is also known as linden that has dark staining. It is has a design of delicately scrolling leaves and twigs on the back plate and wall bracket with a solid shelf. The only damage is a small piece missing at the top, see the second photograph. The shelf is offered in good used antique condition. It measures about 25cm by 31cm by 15cm and weighs 522g. The shelf section features a carved pattern on the perimeter. The piece is wood, but not heavy. It is finished with a darker stain(walnut) but there are golden brown highlights present as well. It is completely carved by hand out of thick pieces of wood and beautifully done. it has a shelf at the top and two very detailed dimensional lion corbels heads on each side. there are two very detailed rectangular panels which are carved with an abundance of intricate detailing and done in high relief. they have two portraits surrounded by ornate sculpture. there are three large solid brass hooks attached to the bottom which each have two hanging prongs and are equally as ornate as the rest of the piece. they have also acquire a nice patina from age. it is in very nice condition measuring 43 inches long by 13 inches up and down and sits 5 inches from the wall. Description This is an antique carved wood wall shelf with a deer head in the center. It is most likely German made and probably by Black Forest Company who was known for making these carvings.
