And I have seen some Mexican art this year that was reminiscent of the faces on this figurine. There are no markings indicating country of origin. This was carved from one piece of a heavy. Hard wood. There is a split in the base that looks like it has been repaired. It makes the figurine a bit wobbly when standing. There is also a very fine hairline crack going half way up the back of the dress of the mother that is in line with the split on the base. 2 Primitive Carvings Assumed To Be From South American Tribal Natives. I was told these carvings are from primitive South America because of the hat styles. The use or exact carvers are unknow. As is the age. I haven't confirmed but it feels like real hair on the carvings. The wood is very light. The taller carving is 12" and the shorter is 10" I've found these pieces to be extremely interesting and if you discover any detail about the source of these I would greatly appreciate the information.

No chips or breaks. although looks like their may have been a feather in the man's headdress. that is missing. They are both signed at the bottom. Very hard for me to make out the name. however my guess is Sigfrid Sandstrom. I can also faintly made out a year. either 1916 or 1946. They are approximately 7.5" tall- the woman slightly taller. WOOD CARVED NATIVE MAN PRIMITIVE STATUE I am not an expert on primitive or tribal art and unfortunately I do not know anything about this carving except that it appears to have some age to it. DESCRIPTION Indian/ Native Tribal Man with large ceremonial headpiece. My guess is that it could be South American or perhaps Mexican. It measures 7 inches high x 3 inches wide x 1.5 inches deep The wood in dark(maybe with a stain? and it feels very smooth to the touch. Detailed hair and facial expression. There is a hairline crack in the wood on the back(see photo) But it looks like it was there in the wood when it was carved. It's not spreading. PLEASE VIEW THE PHOTOS- WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET! Including the platform. The barefoot man wood carving is 6" high. He is handcrafted of a single piece of dark brown wood. With his pack on his back. His pockets bulging with his belongings and a basket cradled in his arms, this walking man looks like a wayfaring peddler. He wears a brimmed hat and sports a beard and mustache. Notice the elderly man's wise and kindly face and tired but gentle eyes. Yes. This man has come a long way, and he still has a long journey ahead before he can lay down his burden and rest. Carved during the 1970s in South America. In Equador, this rustic little figurine will be a fine addition to a collection of small statues as ... morewell as a charming stand-alone piece of primitive home decor.
