This item is a hand carved and hand painted wood shore bird. This bird is grouped as Folk Art. The bird is 5.75" long from tip of the beak to the end of its tail. The bird stands 8" high from the bottom of its stand to its highest point(top of it's head) The bird is approx 2" wide. The bird is used and also due to his age has the blemishes you would expect. He has a chip off of the bottom of his beak his body has a couple of cracks along the grain as expected from many many years of the wood drying out. He has only his original paint so it is worn from handling. He does not have glass eyes his are painted on. He is carved out of two pieces of wood. Antique Handcarved Wood Wooden Shore Bird 10" Long x 4" High - Very Nice
Presented for auction is an antique handcarved wood wooden shore bird on a small base. I do not know what kind of wood this is made from. But it is dark with sort of a reddish cast. It has a nice patina. The bird's length is 10" from tip of beak to tip of tail and it stands 4" high. It weighs 6.2 ozs. I cannot tell if the eyes are made of glass or another material. The eye colors are red and black. This is a handsome piece indeed! I have personally owned it for approximately 25 years. I purchased it in an antique mall in Nashville, TN. Happy Bidding! But I bought these along with two old duck decoys from an estate with many rare antiques and thought they might have some value. the red bird measures 6.25" long and 3.5" high. The black measures 6" long and 4.25" high. They look to be in original condition. Smaller red brown bird's tail is chipped-that one is signed on the bottom"BROWN TOWEE" may have meant"Towhee" Not sure what kind of bird the black one is. Vintage Carved Wood Shore Bird Sculpture Primitive Beautiful Folk Art!
I love bird sculptures and carvings! This one is about 12 inches tall with the pointed beak. As there is in any artwork. There are different styles of carvings. This one is not so much realism as it is impressionistic. It is not meant to mimic life in it's presentation, but rather to more insinuate what this is-a beautiful bird. Perhaps an Egret? The profile looks great on a shelf or against a wall! It is made out of one piece of wood-maybe walnut but I'm not 100% sure. The wood grain is very pretty and visible although it's stained a darker color. Eyes are simply two small holes. Definitely not perfect but quaint nonetheless! He or she is heavy-over 1 lb of solid wood. As you can see in the last picture. I have so much fun pairing all the different types of bird related collections I have. Wood carved, brass, etc. This would ... morebe wonderful in a primitive or rustic setting as well as paired with nautical themed cabin or room. Vintage Hand Carved Wooden Shore Bird Large Antique
Up for sale is a beautifully hand carved Shore Bird. This comes from an Estate sale so I don't have any other information on it. It appears to have a thin crack around the neck from where it looks like it had been repaired. But you have to look pretty close to see it. There are some scuffs and scratches which can be easily fixed with some"Old English" The legs are made of metal and all together is a very solid piece that was made with some skill.
