Gorgeous Vintage Deco Era Box Red Top Socks Seneca Knitting Mills New York I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and shop with another ebayer seller from out of town recently- a real catfish moment. Because we’ve talked for years, but never met! No surprises, just all fun and did we shop until we dropped! I have lots of very cool items for you that I will be listing all week. Enjoy! This striking paper board box will make for a fabulous display in any location. It once housed Red Top Sportsmen's Socks made by the Seneca Knitting Mills in Seneca Falls New York. This mill opened in 1844. And closed its doors in 1999. At one time, they used to make all of the socks for the NHL and the NBA. I'm told that this box dates back to the 1930's or 40s, and it measures 14 1/2" by 5" wide by 2" tall. It is in excellent condition ... morefor its age- there's wear that can be seen in isolated spots on the edges and corners, with a little more on the bottom edges of the lid, along with some small nibbles at the bottom edge of the lid too- you nave to look for them, and you cannot see them from the front of the box. The colors of the box are bright, but I'm sure not as bright as original- as there is some light soil on the box just from living all these years! On the bottom of the box, you see a carmel color and ripples(but it is still sturdy) it looks like it might have had exposure to water at one time- but on the very bottom only, and not a lot, because it didn't even bleed into the inside of the box. The box has no smells, no musty odor etc. What more can I tell you- let my photos do the rest- it's a fabulous old box, you will love it too. Please ask if you have any questions. MILLS ARTILLERY .45 CALIBER PISTOL BELT WITH RED SELVAGE (EDGES)
This is a very rare Mills.45 caliber pistol belt circa 1880’s made with red selvage(edges) designating it for the artillery branch of the Army. There are 45 loops for the pistol ammunition. The belt itself has no fraying. A couple of the loops on the end display some minor fraying at the bottom but it isn’t bad. There are no broken loops. There are no eyelets which is typical of early Mills belts. The original belt plate is stamped Anson Mills Pat. Feb. 1. 81. Overall the belt is in excellent condition. Note. Cartridges are for display only and NOT part of the auction. Mills belts with colored selvage originated with the second half of the first government contract. The government requested the last 20.000 belts ordered be made with blue, yellow and red selvage, theoretically quantities apportioned per the number of troops per branch of service. ... moreThe actual number of belts made is unknown but are very rare and seldom seen today. Whether or not this belt is part of the first contract is unknown because specifics of the contract are not clear but it is certainly of the period and makes sense since many troops in the artillery branch were armed with pistols instead of rifles or carbine. Item Description: The McNally-Doyle Red Fox Inn was opened in 1956. And this does look to date as 1950s in manufacture at the latest. The building burned down a long time ago, the business no longer exists. The McNally-Doyle Baking& Candy Co. was Cleveland's top baking and candy company through 1910 to the the 1950s. I think the restaurant was opened by family after the baking and candy company went out of business. This comes from my father's old collection, and personally I have never seen another one available on the world wide web over a lot of years of occasionally searching. And even now. Very few items related to the Red Fox can be located other then ashtrays, plates, that are in collections. The matchbox remains in incredible condition! Especially for a very small. Thin, shaved wood box. The insert part is also thin, shaved ... morewood, covered in paper. It is unused, both strikers unstruck and clean, most matches, if not all look to be present. No damage to the wood box, wood insert, or wood matches! Very colorful, clean and glossy labels on both sides, a tiny bit of damage to the label on the back, the small white area that can be seen in the picture. This piece measures about 1&1/2"x1"x1/2" very small, very fragile. Made in Italy. Due to one a buyers recent claims towards me. Who can't even back their lies up at all, I thought I would clear this up.
