The carver who created this work was very well skilled in his or her craft. This piece was probably carved in Switzerland or the Black Forrest Region of Germany.I will lean on the more knowledgable viewers to maybe help with this. The artist might even be well known although this piece is unsigned. The carving depicts a gnome or dwarf supporting a candle holder. It must be heavy for he is straining to keep it up. Description CARVED WOOD BIRD Offered for bids is a Primitive Folk Art bird figurine hand carved from a single piece of wood. Posed with body stretched upright and tail fanned. Beak joins with the open work base. Grooved/cut feather lines and light texturing on base. Surface is natural with no varnish or finish. Figurine is approximately 7 3/4" high from base to tips of tail feathers. Light for its size. Weighing just two ounces. From an estate auction- unfortunately I have no history on the piece. Wood type is not known. Color is a medium dark brown with lighter warm brown striations running through it, some of which are slightly raised and textured. Piece is not marked. Wonderful old wood carving of a Russian Squirrel. It looks like it could be a candle holder. It measures 5 1/4 inches tall and the base measures 4 1/2 inches x 3 5/8. It's signed and dated on the bottom by the artist. Robert Patscheider. It was given as a gift to Dick Kohrt in 1934. Kewaunee, Wisconsin. The carving consists of several pieces of wood. One of the squirrel's ears is broken off. It's a lightweight wood.

Offered is a Set of Two Vintage Hand Carved Wooden Folk Art Musicians. Each player measures approx. 16” tall. And the base is approx. 4 5/8” in diameter. Both are in good vintage condition with no cracks or broken components. The left ear on each player is very small. Especially the trumpet player. It appeared at first that the ears were broken off, but close examination shows that they are stained with the same finish as the rest of the bodies. The reason for the small ears is unknown. Maybe it’s a hidden message or trademark signature by the artist? The top clear coat glaze is very shiny in some areas and nearly matte in others. There are craftsman’s tool marks visible on each figure. Consistent with that of true hand crafted and hand finished wares. There is some fading to the gold accents on the cello. There is also a gold paint mark ... moreon the rear of the cello player. The reason for this mark is unknown as well. A wonderful collection of Primitive Folk Art paintings on antique wooden bannisters of people. The bannisters were cut in half and the artists painted a person to create a wall hanging. I was told that these were done locally years ago. But two have markings or signatures on the reverse"P. Poole/ St. Thomas 1969" The two signed ones appear to be by the same artist and are a little better exectued than the other 4 which are not signed. The signed ones are the first two. The last two appear to be from the same bannister rail. Each measures about 22" to 24" and have a great surface patina. 4 of the 6 have small hooks for hanging. The hook is missing on two of them. They have a wonderful folk art imagery and my guess is that they were all created about the same time in the 1960's. On offer is this carved wooden pig. Painted grey. In a sitting position. With a well-detailed and realistic face. The pig measures approximately 12" high, 14" in length, and 17" diagonally from nose to tip of tail. It is in fairly good condition, with a few tiny spots of paint loss. Also the wood has split a bit along one ear and at the joint of one leg. I'm not sure of the exact vintage of this piece, but it has been in my family for at least 35 years. In another listing. Primitive Folk Art Country Carved Wood Dressed Rabbit Couple w Baby Easter
This pair of folk art wood rabbits are from a high quality store. They have a lot of character. Each wearing a straw hat and detailed clothing. Mother rabbit has pantaloons under her skirt. Their wooden ears, feet and hands also have detail. Looks like glass eyes. Mother Rabbit is holding a baby made from fabric and is also adorably dressed. This family would make unique Easter décor. I have never displayed them outside. They have been in storage for a long time and have decided to sell them. Each Rabbit retailed for $20.00. They are each signed and dated by the artist. We have tried many hours to find who this might be but with no luck, if anyone has more information we would love to hear from them. Age: we would date this piece to the late 1800’s– early 1900’s. It does appear to have good age and patina, the wood appears to be raw and never stained or varnished Size: measures 16 inches from heat to tail and over 10 inches high at the cat’s hind legs Condition: In overall wonderful condition with no major damage that we can note. There are some cracks to the wood from drying with age, there are some cracks around the legs, they go through on the back legs but don’t appear to on the front legs; one ear has some fretting and also the end of the tail; there is a piece of wood missing from the toe on one of the back feet; lovely patina and feel to the wood. This piece appears quite old and probably dates to at least the early 19th century if not earlier. It is about 8-1/2" long and about 6-1/2" tall to the horn. The bull is painted bright red with black dots and has a primitive face. It has attached ears that I think are painted rawhide and black horns. One of the horns is missing its tip and the other appears to have been repaired. There is some white paint on one shoulder and I cannot tell if it is original and intended or not. The bull has letters painted on the rump. A clearly defined M on one side and TN on the other side. It's a wonderful primitive wood carving for your collection. Antique Primitive Folk Art Hand Carved Wood Girl Figurine Colonial Pilgram
Description This is a old hand carved figure of a girl or young woman. Nicely done. Almost 6 3/4" tall x 3 3/8" wide on the bottom. The estate sale personal mark everything for cataloging with a black grease marker. The black mark on the bottom is from them. And it would not come off. I did clean the wood with orange oil. As it was dry from being in storage for 30 years. Does show signs of age. But still an interesting primitive piece. If you want your items mailed to a PO Box. Choose the USPS shipping option. THIS IS A HAND CARVED. HAND ASSEMBLED WOOD DUCK. IT APPEARS THIS WAS MADE FROM TWO 2 X 6'S NAILED TOGETHER AND THEN THE HEAD AND NECK ADDED FROM ANOTHER PIECE OF WOOD. YOU CAN SEE(THE LINE BARELY) WHERE THE BODY WAS PUT TOGETHER. YOU CAN SEE(HARD TO) THE LOWER NECK WHERE ADDED. THE NECK HAS A SMALL CRACK ON THE BACK OF THE NECK THAT WILL NOT PRESENT A PROBLEM HOWEVER IT WILL HAVE TO BE ADDRESSED AT SOME POINT UNLESS USED ONLY FOR DISPLAY.
