We are pleased to offer this beautiful pair of carved wooden horses. The horses are Chinese. Indian, or Eastern in origin. The pair have nicely carved details with ornate brass trim. The saddles, bridles, ears and tails are brass. There is also a decorative brass chest piece. This is a very nice pair. They are in good condition with only minor evidence of age. I do not know if they were originally this way or if someone painted them. Very ornate and detailed. The birds are carved in high relief. Both have hangers on back. These birds are awesome. Too bad the person I got them from was just whacking them around. The wood has a gesso type coating which is painted. This is very fragile and is missing some. Both have surface damage. I showed the worst bird up close. The wood that is showing is old. They are on iron legs. Which is also coated/painted. They are quite sturdy and stand 14 inches tall, with glass eyes. The bottom of the bases have paper labels that read- Made in India $59.99- and some numbers. We have not attempted to clean them, the original patina is wonderful with so much character, incredible wear in some areas, look to be from 1800's to 1900's or possibly earlier. The man carries a weapon, spear type and a knife in a holder around his waist. While the woman walks with a walking stick, but no weapons. Both have a dog to their side, the"viewing side" when used as bookends. Both the man and the woman carry a bag at the sides of their waist and a basket on their backs. Rare Pair Antique Hand Carved Neoclassical Wood Wall Hanging 1800s
Offered is a pair of stunning hand carved. Wood wall hangings from an historic estate in Esopus, New York in the beautiful Hudson River Valley. This lovely pair was originally offered from Doyle's Auction House in New York City and still retains its Doyle's tag. Doyle's has been one of New York City's pre-eminent auction houses since 1962 and has extremely high standards for the items they list for sale. This set is crafted of solid wood and features intricately hand carved fruits and vines. They are heavy. Quality pieces and retain their braided cord hanging hooks, which look extremely old. One of the pieces measures 44 1/4" long and is 10 1/4" at its widest point. The other measures 39 1/2" long. This difference is owing to the fact that the shorter of the two pieces is missing part of its bottom. This is ... morehardly noticeable. And in fact will make for a nice contrast when the two are hung side by side. Both wall hangings are missing a few wood pieces, but because of the detailed nature of the carving and the subject matter, it is very difficult to see. This condition is in keeping with architectural salvage of this age. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of American architectural history. Up for sale is this pair of stunning antique carved wood and gilt gesso altar candlesticks. The carving is wonderful with a gold gilt finish and a pricket end. there are 3 carved claw feet. They come from a private Conn estate and measure 19 1/2" x 4 1/2. The are in good condition but when them being so old there are some signs of wear in some areas that only add to their beauty in my opinion. There is a liitle chip at one of the top rims as seen in the picture but looks to have been painted years ago to blend in. This is a great find. Thanks for looking!

A pair(2) of antique cherubs or angels. I believe these angels are wood(they are quite heavy) And have been covered in an overlay that resembles Gesso. They were also painted over at some point, with a cream or off-white paint, perhaps as a way to seal the cracks, or chipping of some of the gesso overlay. Each angel has a hook embedded in their backs, between the wings for hanging(to look like they are flying) and measure approx. 9 1/2" long x 6 1/4" at their widest point out to the tips of their wings. These angels were purchased close to 30 years ago at an antique flea market in Nova Scotia, where I was told they originally came from an old church. The shoes, 5 1/2" long by 3" high and 2" wide, were carved by a master carver, showing wear on the shoes that would have occurred in the life of shoes during that period.the shoes are not identical but obviously by the same carver. Probably French Gothic Revival dragons, facing left and right– we acquired them this summer quite locally in the Limousin, in rural central France. Both were visibly conjoined to a piece of furniture(or interior architectural element) at one time, at the rise of the neck and base of the tail. As a result, there are rough spots on the nape of the necks and the flaring tails, but they are otherwise largely intact. The detail of carving& the quality of the three-dimensional aspect of these dragons is very high, with the spiral at the base of the wings reflecting their architectural nature. Both are full-bodied, with clearly identifiable scales: there is a strong sculptural aspect, ideal for piecing into a wooden framework or design, or simply appreciating them as they are. As to what they came from is a bit of a puzzlement– they are in pine. Pair Antique circa 1860s Carved Wooden Art Sculpture Panels with 16th c Figures
Description: Pair of Antique German carved wood panels featuring figures in relief. The panels are excellently relief carved and features appears to be a knight in the spirit of"King Arthur" and a philosopher who is similar to Erasmus on one panel and a king with his queen attending to a small dog in the other. Upon close inspection. One can see swirling foliage in the background which gives the scenes great depth; as well as small carved dots on the king/queen panel to accent the clothing and scene. They are mid-19th century and measure 10 x 10.25 inches. Condition: One panel has been treated for worm& has a repair.
