A wonderful old piece hand carved out of what I think is Dutch Oak? It probably came off of a mantel or piece of furniture and is a great architectural piece! He has normal wear from age. But nothing major. There is a chip in the wood along the brim of his hat and a crack in the wood along the right side of his coat. The trim pieces along the base are a bit loose in areas. MASTER WOOD CARVING, European - Solid Oak Dragon, Antique Hand Carved Wall Shelf
This is an exceptional antique European MASTER CARVING. This ONE-OF-A-KIND European carving consists of a beautifully rendered DRAGON guarding a well designed and constructed wall shelf- all carved and constructed of SOLID OAK. This carving is simply wonderful! From the tip of his lovely raptor's beak to the end of his bushy lion's tail. This fantastic carving is absolutely museum quality. His beautiful face, delicate neck and tail, well defined ram-style horns, spiny backbone, ribs, and toes are all evidence of a true MASTER'S hand. Any treasure will be safe and sound sitting atop this handsome creature. The upright frame mounts securely to the wall with screws. There are two holes for the screws: one between the front feet and one behind the base of the tail. Carved in 18th-19th century Europe. Very old. But VERY fine. there ... moreare NO condition issues. NO splitting, NO checking, NO warping, NO damage. The CARVING, CONSTRUCTION and CONDITION are impeccable. The construction hardware(nails& flat-head screws) that can be seen appear to all be handmade(square nails- off center slots in the screws) and the wood around them is darkened with oxidation. The shelf is sturdy and the dragon is tightly secured to it. The piece as a whole is substantial. Firm and tight. The visible silver-colored screw is a wall mounting screw, and not part of the construction of the piece. I have shown it here so you can see where the mounting screw goes. Mounting screws are not included. Please note: Care should be taken to mount this museum-quality piece onto wood, into a stud or with toggle bolts, to protect it from damage. The TOTAL height is 15 7/8" The Dragon itself is 12.75" long and about 7" high(or I should say. 7" out from the wall mount) The overhanging self extends exactly 9" from the wall. Weighs 8lbs.

Oak hand-carved Irminsul
This oak carved and woodburned piece was originally made as actual altar furniture for the worship of the old Norse deities by an artist who was rather devoted to them. It is a highly recognizable and interesting piece. Recalling stories about Charlemagne and the old Saxons from the north German plains. The Irminsul that it is an image of was some sort of"Great Pillar" thought to represent the connection between Earth and Sky or the World Tree of mythology. The Royal Frankish Annals speak of Charlemagne cutting it down during his conversion of the Saxon people to Christianity. Whether you are a neopagan or a aficionado of Old World history, this is a very interesting piece.

EARLY ANTIQUE ESTATE TREASURE Angel Nativity HAND CARVED OAK WOOD FIGURAL PANELS
EARLY ANTIQUE ESTATE TREASURE NATIVITY ANGEL SCENE HAND CARVED OAK WOOD PANELS The wood looks light because the sun was shining on it(the wood is actually darker like in the pictures of the full panels) A recently acquired treasure out of a prominent Photographer's estate in PA. There are two panels and both are hand carved from oak. Both scenes are religious with one having an angel and the other depicting the Nativity. The carving is done in high relief and the two panels seem to come alive. They are joined together by reversible hinges(old. But not as old as the panels) These panels are framed in carved oak wood. The framing is mortise and tenon with wooden pins(that slightly stand up, above the wood frame, from shrinkage) The panels are positioned within the framing but the wood has shrank slightly over the years and from the back, ... moreyou can see light along the top edge(not really noticeable) Each framed panel measures approximately 20 1/2" to 20 3/4" high on one side(which would be the hinged side) and slope down to about 15 1/4" high. One panel measures about 14 1/2" across and the other is about 14 1/8" across. The framing is about 9/16" thick. I'm pretty sure these framed panels were once part of something else because there are indentations on the top edge where some other hardware must have been(only seen when looking down at the top of the framing, on the shorter end) I have taken many photographs and will let them speak for themselves. They are in very good condition with only the expected wear, from centuries of being in existence. Exactly how many centuries, I don't know for sure but I feel comfortable saying at least two(and probably more) The quality and workmanship is undeniable! This lovely Antique English Carved Oak Lion is from the mid to late 19th century. Totally hand carved. It originally was on a piece of furniture, probably a Sideboard. It has a wonderful original patina. And any lighter marks in the photos are rubs and not chips or breaks. Really well done and perfect for a desk or bookcase. Stands 8 1/4" high and as you can see. An amazing find for Harvard enthusiasts. A 32"w x 12"h x 8.5"d hand carved pool cue or smoking pipe rack made by Paine Furniture. Age appears to be from the Arts and Crafts period around the turn of the century. Harvard insignia proudly carved in the center of the piece and the words Rah Rah Rah Harvard also carved in lower section. The Harvard VE RI TAS symbol is illustrated/carved in 3 books and is hand painted in 3 colors. Not sure what the figure heads represent but they are beautifully carved and truly set the piece off. This is a substantial piece that weighs 20lbs before packaging. Paine Furniture(48 Canal St. Boston) label appears on the backside. There are 2 hanger clips for mounting. Great condition overall.
