Which I believe reads, Painted Shrine Back Panel Cir. 1730-50 Fine Example of its Kind. The notation was obviously written later. This gothic panel depicts the Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus and protected by winged griffins or stylized eagles on either side. The detail is exquisite. The panel measures 24" tall x 31" wide and 2 1/8" deep. It was painted a satin black(Jacobean finish) on the front. Back remains unpainted. The panel does show some wear around the edges where the wood has worn and there are a couple of small repairs where wood was re-attached. Antique, wood w/carved hand and face, Phillipine church, lg statement piece
29 1/2" long by 16" wide. Substantial statement. Slightly warped. But warping can only be seen from the side, and not from the front. It is a Christian piece, from a church, but I have it in my living room, as did my mother, and her mother before her. It's very beautiful and special, and big. I think that the barely visible left hand has broken fingers-or not. Hard to tell.

CHARMING VINTAGE WOOD CARVING by C H Eriksson from NORWAY This is a rare. Well-crafted Norwegian woodcarving of a tall and skinny man by C H Eriksson in nice, vintage condition. I find no breaks or repairs. Please look carefully at the photos and ask any questions. This character was referred to as a parish clerk by a hotel owner in Stalheim, Norway who sold pieces like this in her souvenir and gift shop. The clerk carries a parish register which is a large church record book. The carving measures nearly 12 inches tall. The base is approximately 2.75 inches deep and 3.5 inches wide. For collectors who have wondered about the identity of this carver whose easily recognized works were often unsigned or inscribed with the initials CHE, this carving provides the answer. This is an original 10th to 12th Century Early Christian Angel Carved Wood Statue possibly French? She is wearing cross earrings which suggest she is Christian. The hairdo suggest it is early French, She appears to be sitting down, with one hand holding the ceiling and another rested on her left leg. Her bear breasts and belly suggest she might be pregnant or some sort of fertility angel. I don't know anything else about this piece. Bid with confidence! Comments or questions are appreciated. I also purchased several 16th. 17th, and 18th century old masters painting, an Otto Dix landscape Oil on Canvas, another german impressionist painting by Magnus Zeller and many fine antiques, gold& silver pieces. So judging by their collection I am guessing this is rare and very old. measures 2.5" tall. Appears to have had arms at one point. There are several small spikes sticking out of his head. So I think that may have been a crown of thorns. There is also remnants of paint. The carving is very well-done and detailed.
