It is definitely not watertight and you can see daylight through the cracks. The bottom of the bowl is flat and the edge of the spoon is textured. Look at the photos. Have you seen a spoon like that? It's almost like a primitive spork ;-). At first I wondered if the spoon was made out of horn, but I think it is wood. It seems to have layers. I'm not an expert, just an appreciator who grew up with parents who loved antiques and this is from their home. I am only guessing at the age of this. It is from the East Coast so it could be older.

VINTAGE HAND CARVED PRIMITIVE ANTIQUE FOLK ART MUSICIANS TRUMPET & CELLO PLAYER
Offered is a Set of Two Vintage Hand Carved Wooden Folk Art Musicians. Each player measures approx. 16” tall. And the base is approx. 4 5/8” in diameter. Both are in good vintage condition with no cracks or broken components. The left ear on each player is very small. Especially the trumpet player. It appeared at first that the ears were broken off, but close examination shows that they are stained with the same finish as the rest of the bodies. The reason for the small ears is unknown. Maybe it’s a hidden message or trademark signature by the artist? The top clear coat glaze is very shiny in some areas and nearly matte in others. There are craftsman’s tool marks visible on each figure. Consistent with that of true hand crafted and hand finished wares. There is some fading to the gold accents on the cello. There is also a gold paint mark ... moreon the rear of the cello player. The reason for this mark is unknown as well. Antique Primitive German Hand Turned Carved Wood Scene Art Bowl Roemer Set Lot
Hello- This is a set I have collected over time. Each piece is very special. And I wanted to do everything that I could to help people stumble upon this group who may not otherwise be looking for such pieces. The Salad Bowl is part of and included with the Roemers. The Roemer collection is all hand blown. The tallest one on the left measures approx. 7 1/2" w/ 3" base. It is hand blown. There is one tiny chip in the bottom rim of that glass only. The chip is not sharp and won't cut you when touching. It is the same front and back as shown regarding the design as it is clear with no etching. The stem is hollow. And the glass holds 5 oz. The 2nd to the left is decorated with shiny gold similar to Mercury Glass and is highly reflective. It is hand blown and hand etched. It says"Kindsbach" which is a town in Germany. This ... moreglass stands approx. 6" high on 3 1/8" with enclosed base. Holds 6 1/2" oz. of liquid with no chips. The above glass is 3rd on the left. It has hand etched grapes and vines. It stands approx. 6" high on 3" base with hollow stem. It holds 3 oz. of liquid. The above glass is hand blown and etched with"Brixen i. Thale. The glass measures approx. 4" high with 3" bowl on 2 1/2" hollow base. The bowl is hand carved. Appears well used and has one crack. The bowl can still be used for many things, and I have not cleaned it. The bowl measures 17 1/4" across x 5" high- Fork and Spoons measure approx. 18 1/2" long x 2 1/4" wide. The spoon has a baby angle that hadn't been finished yet. The Fork reads: Let him drink and forget his poverty and remember his misery no more. Backside of Fork: The wise man eats to live, the glutton lives to eat. The Spoon reads: Live while you live The epicure would say And seize the pleasures of the present day. We acquired it in Montreal quite a ... morefew years ago; it is signed on the base with a purple ink stamp that shows medallion with ribbon and a banner with the artists name but it is a bit smudged, the first name may be Darran or something of that sort, the last three letters appear to be RAN and the last name looks like Kall but again that may also be Wall or Hall as the first letter is uncertain. We have tried many hours to find who this might be but with no luck, if anyone has more information we would love to hear from them. Age: we would date this piece to the late 1800’s– early 1900’s. It does appear to have good age and patina, the wood appears to be raw and never stained or varnished Size: measures 16 inches from heat to tail and over 10 inches high at the cat’s hind legs Condition: In overall wonderful condition with no major damage that we can note. There are some cracks to the wood from drying with age, there are some cracks around the legs, they go through on the back legs but don’t appear to on the front legs; one ear has some fretting and also the end of the tail; there is a piece of wood missing from the toe on one of the back feet; lovely patina and feel to the wood. The Carved Wood piece in the photos is the actual one you will receive. It is in excellent Display/Collectible condition. There are a couple of small splits in the wood- I will describe this below. Or Pacific Island. It is much older than the Kenyan pieces I generally acquire. I sent a few photos to a Dealer in Florida, but he was puzzled, as well.
