EARLY ANTIQUE ESTATE TREASURE Angel Nativity HAND CARVED OAK WOOD FIGURAL PANELS
EARLY ANTIQUE ESTATE TREASURE NATIVITY ANGEL SCENE HAND CARVED OAK WOOD PANELS The wood looks light because the sun was shining on it(the wood is actually darker like in the pictures of the full panels) A recently acquired treasure out of a prominent Photographer's estate in PA. There are two panels and both are hand carved from oak. Both scenes are religious with one having an angel and the other depicting the Nativity. The carving is done in high relief and the two panels seem to come alive. They are joined together by reversible hinges(old. But not as old as the panels) These panels are framed in carved oak wood. The framing is mortise and tenon with wooden pins(that slightly stand up, above the wood frame, from shrinkage) The panels are positioned within the framing but the wood has shrank slightly over the years and from the back, ... moreyou can see light along the top edge(not really noticeable) Each framed panel measures approximately 20 1/2" to 20 3/4" high on one side(which would be the hinged side) and slope down to about 15 1/4" high. One panel measures about 14 1/2" across and the other is about 14 1/8" across. The framing is about 9/16" thick. I'm pretty sure these framed panels were once part of something else because there are indentations on the top edge where some other hardware must have been(only seen when looking down at the top of the framing, on the shorter end) I have taken many photographs and will let them speak for themselves. They are in very good condition with only the expected wear, from centuries of being in existence. Exactly how many centuries, I don't know for sure but I feel comfortable saying at least two(and probably more) The quality and workmanship is undeniable! Antique HAND CARVED GOLD GILT WOOD CHERUB ANGEL FIGURAL CANDLE HOLDERS...Estate
From a historic Kentucky estate. This is a wonderful pair of continental carved gilt wood candle holders. The cherubs. Angels, or putti each hold one thin candle. They appear to be all original. They are gold gilt gesso over carved wood. Notice the faces and hair.I love the poses. Very well done. I have included photos of the undersides of the holders, one with the felt pad pulled back, to show the early method of construction and the red base paint. The heirs to this estate believed these were at least late 18th or early 19th century. There were several items from European churches in the collection including other carved and gilt wood building trim, candlesticks, and photo frames. The flared candle fittings& bobeches themselves are metal and in a very early European design. These are superb decorator pieces and hard to find. MEASURES: ... moreeach is approximately 7" tall to the top of the holder and one is 5.5" and the other is 4.5"at their widest points. CONDITION:AS SHOWN.one holder has a damaged hand but it is there and someone has added candle wax over the years to stabilize the holder. You can see the original metal pin showing at the wrist. This is very minor for this type of ware. And easily fixed if you desire. They each have minor chips on the toes and fingers. 4 pound carved Marble Elephant. Stands 7 3/4" tall. back leg to trunk 8" and across is 2" Gray with colorful variations. Most likely this was purchased in Italy on one of their travels. Pio Pico was the last Governor of California under Mexican Rule. Don Juan aka John Forester and Ysidora had two sons, Marcos and Juan. Marcos Forester married Guadalupe. Daughter of Don Juan Avila. One of their children was named Lucana. She was born May 17, 1877 at Las Flores, California In 1905 Lucana Forester married Will McFadden of Placentia. California. There were the parents of Ysidora McFadden Brower.

This is a woodworkers project. Cute carved bears on sled signed on bottom depose. I have the pieces of the sled but one of the bears who sat last in the sled must have it a bump and fell off. In as in condition about 8 inches long

Due to the wood and the iron staple used to hang it. Depicts Mary and baby Jesus. Split in wood and hole. Very secure. The panel is made of two pieces.
