The plate has a part of two impressed eagle marks. Both marks are worn and hard to read, but one can clearly recognize the "W", above the stars and eagle. There is also a "D" that can still be read below the eagle mark to the left. This would mean there is the name "WILLIAM", above the eagle and "DANFORTH", below the eagle. The second mark appearsto have a part of the name "DANFORTH" below the eagle. These marks are listed in "A Guide To American Pewter" by Carl Jacobs, mark number 122, page 81-82; where an 8" plate with this mark was valued at $65 back in 1957.

Antique carved wood American Art Architectural Salvage Figure, Man, Furniture
A nice piece of architectural salvage carved out of wood ~ figure of a man. A duke, a musketeer? It probably came off of a mantel or large piece of furniture. He is old and somewhat fragile. There has been some repair work on his neck where he has cracked up the sides. There is a small brad in his neck and on the top where a piece was loose. The base has some cracks in it and a few loose pieces which may need gluing. There is a hole in the back of his head where he was mounted at one time. He is still an amazing piece of history and you will love him! Check out photos for further idea on condition and detail. Up for bids is this Antique American Folk Art Carved& Painted Birds In Nest Wood Carving. This piece was most likely carved in Pennsylvania in the mid 20thC but could be a little earlier. The carving depicts three baby birds and their mother that are sitting on the edge of their nest. The baby birds eyes look to be nails and the mother bird's eyes look like tacks. They are attached to the nest with thick wire legs. The birds are wood and nest are wood but the nest has composition covering it to give it a more realistic look. All of the paint on this piece is original. There are no breaks or repairs to this piece but I do believe that 2 baby birds were either never added or they are missing. Folk art made from old fence posts. Made into a American flag with 13 stars. 12 stars. I am not sure what state or meaning that gives the flag. I don't know the age of it. But I got it from a storage locker about a year ago with a lot of other antiques from between 1800 and 1940, so I would guess somewhere in that range. It has been in my office for a year now. And it needs to go to a collector or a new home that wants to display it. I don't know who made it. It shows signs of age and use. As must be expected. I guess it is made somewhere between 1850 and 1940. But I am not sure, can be older. I don't know if it has been repaired at some point. But it might have. The size is 32.5 X 18 inches. ANTIQUE CARVED& GILDED AMERICAN EAGLE" cellpadding="10" This fine carving of an American Spread Eagle is distinctive in that it is almost a reverse image of the ubiquitous eagles by John Bellamy and copied by the Artistic Carving Co. It is refreshing to find a fine carving that is very much the work of a skilled artisan whose attention to detail is exceptional. And does not appear to be the work of John Bellamy or the Artistic Carving Co. of Boston. In the same context t he shield of the United States is shown on the viewer's left. Rather than the more prevalent right with three arrows clutched in his left talon. There is only one star showing in the upper left of the shield, the others covered by feathers and the talon holding it. The eagle has a rather fierce expression and the manner in which the shield and arrows ... moreare gripped is protective. The feathers are carefully detailed and incised. There is a hole drilled through them on both sides for mounting in addition to the eyes and wire. An old auction label is at the center top of the back. CONDITION: Much of the paint has weathered with a significant loss showing that it was displayed outside for many years. Perhaps on a boat. The original gilding on the entire eagle and much of the underlying gesso was lost over time and gold paint was later used that also had mostly worn away. The entire upper section was re gilded and glazed sometime ago. Fierce expression of protectionism grasping American shield& arrows HERITAGE: This type of carving was done by sailors. And craftsman such as Bellamy and were an expression of the patriotic feeling in the country during the mid 19th Century. The proportions of the relic and measurements are realistic. And the detailing is precise. It was discovered in Maine and mounted in an old sailor made fancy marlin work picture frame for display. Eagle head Relic framed: 14 3/4” L x 12 1/2” H x 1 3/4” D Weight 3 lbs 9 oz Eagle Head 7" L x 4" H x 3 1/4" D Presented is a carved wood. Very old, American eagle head with superbly incised detailing of its features. It dates back many years, and was assuredly done by a master carver who was active in the 1850's and specialized in ship carvings. The head curves sharply to the left, the viewer's right, which is indicative ... moreof eagles that were to be mounted as a stern board or on a plaque. The brow has the fierce look that is common to eagle heads of a patriotic nature. And the feathers are individually chiseled which is unique to this unnamed carver. Since eagle carvers rarely if ever signed their works, there is no way to attribute who might be the artist, except by matching the technique. As unique and stylized as it is, we have been unable to find a closer match then the stern board eagle in the Mallory Building at the Mystic Seaport. Both heads have the characteristic pose with the open vertically curved beak, extended tongue and fierce eyebrows. It is displayed high on the west wall of the Mallory Building. As displayed, it makes a fine example of American nautical folk art as does this eagle head relic. In smaller sizes. Patriotic wood carvings of American eagles were very popular in mid 19th Century New England homes, and these are the most numerous of the examples in today's market. Antique wood carving from the top of a piece of furniture depicting an eagle holding a shield. It's very nicely carved and I'm not sure if it's walnut or mahogany, it measures about 25in. wide by about 10 1/2in. from the bottom to the top of the eagles head, it's about 1 1/2in. thick, it looks to be in good condition the finish looks original, there is some glueing on the back it looks like the eagle had been partially broken off at one time and glued back, it's a good job and hard to see but there is nothing missing, if you need a nice old topping for a piece of furniture or just something to hang on the wall it's a nice one and is guaranteed old.

From the collection of a retired diplomat we offer a most unique carved figure of the Christ. Our supplier indicated that the crucified figure. Now missing its arms, originated in Latin America, probably from Mexico and dates from the late 17th to early 18th century. Beautifully carved one can see an expertise in the sculpture. And the agony that the Lord suffered in His final passion. The body is very emaciated and he is bearded with long hair. The hair is half way down the back. Some 10 inches in length(25 cm) At the widest some 2 1/2 inches( 6 cm) The wood is quite light and we believe it is a type of pine. Please see the pictures.

Absolutely Awesome Antique American Eagle Carved Black Forest
Presenting for auction; A great American Carved Eagle. The carving looks typical to the Black Forest region. I would date it from the late 19 th to very early 20 th century. It is possible that the eagle was an architectural piece off of something else. Holes in the back can be seen. The back board has a bit difference in color variation. The whole configuration is done in three sections(the backboard, eagle and the foliage) The backboard base, than the bird attached at the top and the carving with foliage attached under the bird. The back board has been carved to complement the whole configuration nicely. If this started life together or put together from another piece, it makes a great wall hanger. The exaggerated neck of the eagle appears it could had been part of a rack for holding something, possible a coat or to hold a bag. Someone ... morehad refinished it and added a varnish. Steel wool could bring the shine down if you decide to. The piece measures 22 1/4” wing tip to tip X 21 3/4” height X 7 1/2” depth. The carving weights just under 6 pounds. It is just wonderful. Antique Carved Folk Art Figure of an African American Stump Speaker 18th-19th C.
This is an unusual and quite insulting carved figure of an African American gentleman. He is dressed in 18th or early 19th century costume. With knee breeches, fancy waistcoat, and long coat. He is standing on what appears to be a tree stump, which makes me feel he is a caricture of an black politician or preacher. He stands 4 1/4 inches high and is carved from a single piece of wood. On the base are two sets of inscriptions. One set is initials in pencil and the second is a series of numbers in ink, which look like museum accession numbers.

Antique? Large African? Asian? American? hand carved wood conga drum skin top
Not sure of age. But appears very old. Large hand carved wood drum with animal skin top. Great looking piece with alot of detail in carving. Drum itself is in solid condition with only a few light scuffs and nicks around. Ropes holding drum cover are loose, as is the animal skin cover. I see one hole in the cover, so not sure if it would play with the ropes tightened. Tough too tell origin, but perhaps someone could shed some light on this piece for me. Measures 33 3/4 inches long, 5 1/2 inches wide at the base, 11 1/2 inches wide at the top. Measurements are a little off considering the drum is not a round, being carved out of a log. This is a fine antique painted wooden carving of the famous Morgan horse named"Bulrush" Bulrush lived from 1812-1848 and was an important historical member of a truly American breed of horse which started in New England. I have included a contempory 1800's picture of Bulrush to show the model is an exact representation of the horse in the historical picture. There is a brass plaque stamped with the name Bulrush on the base. As the new nation of the United States of America began its 200-year- old history. A new breed of horse also began. The now legendary bay stallion Figure was born in 1789 in southern New England. He was taken to Randolph, Vermont, in 1791 by Justin Morgan, who had recently emigrated there with his family from Springfield, Massachusetts. Little did Justin Morgan know that the young stallion Figure and his ... moredescendants would play a major role in American history. Figure was a stylish bay horse of many talents. He became widely known for his ability to pull stumps and logs while clearing the land of newly arrived settlers. In addition. Here is a really cool ANTIQUE OR VINTAGE hand carved wood ladle or hanging planter. I don't know which) It depicts two woman which appear to be from the Amazon/ South American Indian descent. The handle has hand carved figures of an indigenous woman squatting while the rest of the upper handle forms her long hair. This Hand Carved Wood Ladle measure approximately 20" high x 4.5" wide x 6" deep. The face and figure is in excellent condition. It has a beautiful patina on it. It look to be made of teak wood. Antique 19th Century Footed American Native Woven Lidded Reed Basket Alligator
For sale is what I believe an early American possibly native peoples lidded woven footed basket with a carved alligator decoration on walnut panel on its woven lid. The construction appears to be early 19th cent. before 1850 from similar baskets I have seen from native peoples and from this period. I do not have any documentation or provenance concerning these representations. This is an educated guess on my part from dealing with antiques and collectibles for over 40 years. I recall I obtained this piece somewhere along the East coast many years ago. But I do not recall which state. I want to say New England states, Georgia, or Florida, but not sure. The basket with lid measures approximately 5" in length by 3 5/8" wide by 2 1/2" in height.

The two carved wood horses are the best part of this Folk Art Sculpture. They are carved like they are running full gallop. Each horse measures 9 ¾” long 6” tall to the top of the tin ears. The tack and halter are constructed from leather. Just in front of the carriage you can see the double tree. Hanging, because the leather straps have broken. The only other problem with the antique carriage is the right wheel, which is strong but needs to be straightened out. This luscious American 1930's painted apple has a perfect apple shape and beautiful red color with yellow highlights. Perfect wear. Great patina.Turned wood. Nice age. Later, there were the Japan apples that had toys in them. This one has a sweet little wood, shaped stem. Great feel and appearance. It is 3 3/4" tall and 3 1/2" in diameter, almost 11 1/2" in circumference.

Vintage Native American Cherokee Hand Carved Wood Antique J Stancil
Antique hand carved Native American. Cherokee tribe. Beautiful One Of A Kind Piece. The size is approximately 13" tall. About 4" wide, and about 4" in the widest spot from front to back. Signature carved on the back"J Stancil" I don't know the exact age. My grandmother said he started carving in early 1900's and that this piece is probably from the 1920's-1940's. Very unique and detailed one of a kind hand carved collectors piece. It carries a very mystical positive energy. It was bought from an estate sale of a vintage/ antique collector and dealer. This piece is great shape for how old it is. Has a couple small nicks here and there and the hat shows signs of being glued back together where it obviously was cracked(close up shown in last couple pics) its not that noticeable on display and that's ... morethe only major flaw. WOOD CARVED NATIVE MAN PRIMITIVE STATUE I am not an expert on primitive or tribal art and unfortunately I do not know anything about this carving except that it appears to have some age to it. DESCRIPTION Indian/ Native Tribal Man with large ceremonial headpiece. My guess is that it could be South American or perhaps Mexican. It measures 7 inches high x 3 inches wide x 1.5 inches deep The wood in dark(maybe with a stain? and it feels very smooth to the touch. Detailed hair and facial expression. There is a hairline crack in the wood on the back(see photo) But it looks like it was there in the wood when it was carved. It's not spreading. PLEASE VIEW THE PHOTOS- WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET!
