Up for bids is this Antique American Folk Art Carved& Painted Birds In Nest Wood Carving. This piece was most likely carved in Pennsylvania in the mid 20thC but could be a little earlier. The carving depicts three baby birds and their mother that are sitting on the edge of their nest. The baby birds eyes look to be nails and the mother bird's eyes look like tacks. They are attached to the nest with thick wire legs. The birds are wood and nest are wood but the nest has composition covering it to give it a more realistic look. All of the paint on this piece is original. There are no breaks or repairs to this piece but I do believe that 2 baby birds were either never added or they are missing. Folk art made from old fence posts. Made into a American flag with 13 stars. 12 stars. I am not sure what state or meaning that gives the flag. I don't know the age of it. But I got it from a storage locker about a year ago with a lot of other antiques from between 1800 and 1940, so I would guess somewhere in that range. It has been in my office for a year now. And it needs to go to a collector or a new home that wants to display it. I don't know who made it. It shows signs of age and use. As must be expected. Antique Carved Folk Art Figure of an African American Stump Speaker 18th-19th C.
This is an unusual and quite insulting carved figure of an African American gentleman. He is dressed in 18th or early 19th century costume. With knee breeches, fancy waistcoat, and long coat. He is standing on what appears to be a tree stump, which makes me feel he is a caricture of an black politician or preacher. He stands 4 1/4 inches high and is carved from a single piece of wood. On the base are two sets of inscriptions. One set is initials in pencil and the second is a series of numbers in ink, which look like museum accession numbers.

Special Christmas gift for the Noah's Ark lover! It is not a toy and has been displayed all the 18 years I have owned it. Noah and Mrs. with sets of animals. Pigs, sheep, cows, horses, camels, giraffe, zebras and elephants. The carved animals stand from one inch to about four inches. The ark stands about 9 inches tall from it's wooden base. The rustic blue base is on wheels that actually move when pulled by a leather piece. The widest part of the base is 10 inches with wheels. The length is about 18 inches. Here is a really old nutcracker. I think he is a Fisherman(i got another fisherman figure from the same lady. He is 9 inches tall and hand carved. He has a nice hat. The detail in the carving of this magnificent eagle is absolutely beautiful. From the talons gripping the base to the tips of the feathered wings. Unfortunately, there is no signature on this piece, but it was no doubt carved by a true artist. The glass eyes are embeded and look quite real, with a shade difference in color. VINTAGE AMERICAN HAND CARVED WOOD FOLK ART BIRD ~ 25 ½”
We purchased this wonderful large hand carved folk art bird about 12-15 years ago from an older gentleman who had been storing it in his garage since the 1950’s. He had owned the carving long enough he couldn’t remember where or when he originally acquired it. We do not know exactly when this item was created. It looks 19th century to us. It stands approximately 25 ½” in height. Viewed from the front it is 9 ¾” deep and is 5 ¼” across the front of the base. It weighs approximately 11 lbs. The bird is not marked as to who made it which is no surprise as older pieces seldom are. We photographed it outside in natural light and the wood is a little less red than the photos indicate. There is some discussion in our household as to whether this is a young wild turkey or perhaps a pullet or young female chicken. We are inclined to ... morethink the latter due to the comb. The bird is carved entirely from a single piece of wood the variety of which we’ve been unable to ascertain. It doesn’t appear to be pine. It may be some kind of oak; however. We’re just not sure what kind of wood it is. The bird is in overall good original condition for a hand carved wooden piece with age. It is not perfect. We think that it was originally stained or varnished. There is no evidence that it was ever colored or painted. There is chipping to the bottom of the base at the foot. However. Since the piece is chip carved, it is difficult to say if this occurred during the carving or at a later date. There is a dehydration crack on one side of the base. This is to be expected in any older carved wooden piece. It is caused by the wood shrinking across the grain over time and is something you look for as a sign of age. It becomes part of the item’s bona fides. There is also what appears to be a chip to the middle toe nail on the forward foot of the bird. Wooden Chalice - Carved Wood Cup - American Folk Art - What is it? Do you know?
This looks to me to be a chalice made of wood. It is clearly hand carved out of one solid piece of wood. It weighs 1 lb/ 3 oz and is 8" tall. It has some age to it. But I have no idea how old it is. If I had to guess, I'd say at least 50- 60 years old, but it could be much older. For all I know, it could be 300 years old! but I cannot substantiate it. It is not hollow and the top is not open like a regular chalice or cup, but the top is carved into a pattern. There are no makers marks anywhere on it. There are also strange holes carved into the body. I have no idea why or what they are for(see pics) I searched on line and on ebay and was not able to find anything about it. It is truly unique. I would venture to say that it is a nice example of American Folk Art, but I cannot even verify that. The only other problem with the antique carriage is the right wheel, which is strong but needs to be straightened out. Antique American Folk Art Solid Wood Carved Woman
This is a superb example of the carving skills of an unknown folk artist. The subject appears to be a young woman. Skillfully crafted with a primitive look. The figure has been carved from a solid block of wood 2 ¾" square x 13" long. The base on which the figure stands is an integral part of the piece. The photos show that the back of the base is actually a five-sided hollow box(see the 3rd photo) This is a wonderful piece that can work even in a contemporary setting. Dimensions: 2 ¾" square x 13" tall Weight: 13.9 oz.

This is one of four wooden carved dolls found in a local estate. He is fully clothed with his loin cloth and boots carved into the leg piece. His hair. Headdress and facial features are carved into the head piece which is one with the body. Each arm and leg are jointed to the body. The doll is signed B Morris 1982. This luscious American 1930's painted apple has a perfect apple shape and beautiful red color with yellow highlights. Perfect wear. Great patina.Turned wood. Nice age. Later, there were the Japan apples that had toys in them. This one has a sweet little wood, shaped stem. Great feel and appearance. It is 3 3/4" tall and 3 1/2" in diameter, almost 11 1/2" in circumference.

Including the platform. The barefoot man wood carving is 6" high. He is handcrafted of a single piece of dark brown wood. With his pack on his back. His pockets bulging with his belongings and a basket cradled in his arms, this walking man looks like a wayfaring peddler. He wears a brimmed hat and sports a beard and mustache. Notice the elderly man's wise and kindly face and tired but gentle eyes. Yes. This man has come a long way, and he still has a long journey ahead before he can lay down his burden and rest. Carved during the 1970s in South America. In Equador, this rustic little figurine will be a fine addition to a collection of small statues as ... morewell as a charming stand-alone piece of primitive home decor. There appears to be a small piece of the hat missing.
