This listing is for what looks and feels like a hand carved wooden head necklace that I found at an estate sale. It doesn't feel like metal or plastic. It looks like an African person's head. If it is wood it is a very hard wood and it is either dark in color or the head has been stained dark. The head is 2 1/4" tall not including the hoop in the top of the head to hold the cord that goes around the neck. The necklace is about 29" around. Or laying flat and pulled out straight it is 14 1/2" long. The cord has a little bit of stretch to it too. It would make a great addition to any black art jewelry collection. Good luck. Antique Carved Folk Art Figure of an African American Stump Speaker 18th-19th C.
This is an unusual and quite insulting carved figure of an African American gentleman. He is dressed in 18th or early 19th century costume. With knee breeches, fancy waistcoat, and long coat. He is standing on what appears to be a tree stump, which makes me feel he is a caricture of an black politician or preacher. He stands 4 1/4 inches high and is carved from a single piece of wood. On the base are two sets of inscriptions. One set is initials in pencil and the second is a series of numbers in ink, which look like museum accession numbers.

Antique? Large African? Asian? American? hand carved wood conga drum skin top
Not sure of age. But appears very old. Large hand carved wood drum with animal skin top. Great looking piece with alot of detail in carving. Drum itself is in solid condition with only a few light scuffs and nicks around. Ropes holding drum cover are loose, as is the animal skin cover. I see one hole in the cover, so not sure if it would play with the ropes tightened. Tough too tell origin, but perhaps someone could shed some light on this piece for me. Measures 33 3/4 inches long, 5 1/2 inches wide at the base, 11 1/2 inches wide at the top. Measurements are a little off considering the drum is not a round, being carved out of a log. Shipping will be on the high side, due too size and weight of the drum, but i will reimburse any overages too winning bidder. They show their age as seen in pics. The wood is old and shows some age splitting on them but all original with no repairs. This is typical of old wood when it ages. There is some noticeable wear spots on the male figure(see PICs) But overall he and his female companion are in good safe for their age. Up for bid is a unique Black Forest carved wood figure. Its marked Germany only so its from before they had to put Made In which is the earlier part of the 1900's.The fellow is African American and his beer mug is marked HP which is for Hofbrau Beer. He stands about 13" tall and is very dapper in his tie. Vest and jacket. I of pics for your perusal. As you can see he is missing the mechanics but hes in wonderful condition otherwise. The woman has hair flowing over both shoulders, while the man has textured, short hair. It looks like the bottom of each has carved marks, like the maker's mark or signature was removed.
